this is my favorite place. Sushi is soo good. Healthy full moon roll, mmmmmm!!!!!!!!!! also Poke bowl- to die for.

When it comes to lunch time sushi haunts, this is the place to be. Their Full Moon lunch time specials are quite filling and quite reasonable. Perfect for a lunch time date for two. I have never tried it for anything but lunch but overall, it's a pretty solid place.
(4)Ryan G.
Flat out you can't beat full moon. Value kills just about any other place of its type. Always busy, always fresh. I add jalapenos to a lot of my rolls and they have no prob obliging. Cold beers, hot sake, and start with an "el Jalapeno". No disappointments other than a slight wait when its busy!
(5)Stephanie A.
This place is alright. All my friends LOVE it, but i just think it's ok. I've definitely had plenty of better japanese food in my life, but this isn't to say their food is bad. it's most definitely not. i'm just saying i've had better is all.
(3)Shelby A.
This is a good place to come if -you have 4 or less people -you're getting lunch -or you're broke The sushi is eh okay, but you get what you pay for. The service is kind of slow, but if you don;t come during a rush its actually pretty decent. They have really cheap lunch combos.. like $7 for salad (ask for the dressing on the side) rice, miso soup, teriyaki chicken bowl, and a roll (either crunchy, california or rainbow) the lunch specials when i'm broke are really the only reasons i go there. But never a completely terrible experience..
(3)Kevin N.
I really enjoy this place especially for it's price. I have to admit the sushi here is a little bit more pricey than I would like for the quality of the sushi. However, the specials are great considering for less than $10 you can get about 8 piece crunchy roll, with Teriyaki beef, rice, salad, and miso soup. In my opinion the meals are of great value and the ambiance is nice and friendly.
(5)Will D.
Only reason I come back here is because of the Healthy Full Moon rolls but then again I'm not really an expert on sushi quality. This is my quick sushi fix when I'm urging for something that is really near by. Food takes awhile to come out so I would recommend ordering everything at once. So far, Full Moon has never failed me.
(4)Alyssa H.
I've been here many times as I did tonight and decided I'd write a review. Crazy right?! Anyhoo, their food has always treated me well. It's cheap which is the best thing about it. Sometimes it can be super busy, tonight it wasn't. Sometimes service can be iffy, tonight it wasn't. I guess it's pretty hit and miss here. I got the sushi and sashimi combination. The california rolls were good the sashimi was just ok. nothing special. I'd rather go to a pricier place for great tasting food. This place is good when you need a quick fix and not break the bank.
(3)Kevin A.
The price for the quality and amount of food you get here is crazy! And no, not crazy in a bad way but a good way! This place is not shady on the amount of fish they give you. The lunch/dinner specials have a big portioned meal. The quality of the fish here is better or just as good as most of the more expensive sushi restaurants I've been too. Chefs and waiters are extremely nice and attend to your every need.
(4)Anjelica A.
I absolutely Love this place! My cousin brought m here a couple years ago, and I've been going back since! They servers and Sushi Chefs are very friendly and nice, and the prices are great too! It's kinda scary though, that they get to know you so well on your first couple visits, that you hear back from your Cousin "So, I heard you were at Full Moon with friends last Saturday..." But they get to know you and know what you order, and really take care of you while you are dining. A lot of times they chit-chat with you and you get to know them at the sushi bar as well. Go and try this place... My favorite is the Poke Bowl! Yummm!
(4)David K.
Best volcano roll in the biz! Reasonable prices too!!!
(5)Hester C.
I like Full Moon. I find the sushi to be decent. Tonight I came here and it's been A LONG TIME since my last visit here. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes, ordering to paying. I don't find that necessarily a bad thing. They were obviously not busy; I was the only person at the sushi bar. There were probably two other parties in the establishment. I had an order of tuna and one of yellowtail and then one lobster hand roll. All were good. I've probably had better elsewhere since I do eat at other places but I can't think of one off the top of my head. The total was $10.76 not including tip. I find that fairly reasonable. I always liked the chefs at the bar; they're very friendly and funny. This place is about five minutes away from my place so it's nice to come here when I'm jonesing for affordable sushi. The atmosphere tonight was very quiet; other nights it has been crazy loud with a long wait outside. It's Super Bowl Sunday, though, so... it's understandable. PS- OOH, the ginger here was particularly addicting for me tonight! I don't know if it was that batch or if it's normal but man... it was good!
(4)Cherie M.
I don't get to eat here often, but I totally recommend getting any of their special of the day sushi, particularly the sushi they serve with the piece of roasted garlic on top. Deeestinkylicious!!!
(3)Laura K.
I absolutely LOVE this place. The sushi is cheap and they're efficient. If I'm super hungry, I usually get the full moon special, lots of food for a good price. I could live off the crunchy roll.
(5)Andrew G.
I live right down the street from this place and dispite some of the other reviews on here I've actually always had pretty good service. Maybe because i always request the same waitress. I really enjoy coming here. The atmosphere is really nice and mellow. Everything looks clean and tidy. They're spicey tune rolls are my favorite. Crunchy rolls as well and they have some tasty special rolls every now and again.
(4)S.J. A.
Okay, so Full Moon isn't so great after all. It's down to two-and-a-half stars. The last few times I've gone there, the sushi hasn't been very fresh. My friend and I sent back a roll and they still charged us for it! The poke is always good, so that's the only thing I'll order now. Oh, and on my most recent visit, I had slow, inattentive table service. I need to find a new place.
(3)JustinAmanda T.
this place is yummy. im not really a sushi eater..i dont think crunchy rolls really count as sushi..but, i LOVE them here. SO GOOD. so crunchy!!!!! the service is a little ehhhhhh it used to be better back in the day like 10 years ago. but as far as crunchy rolls go - yum!
(4)Mimi P.
This is my go to place for sushi and Japaneses food whenever I'm back in Fountain Valley. Where else can you get a great Crunchy Roll (the best I've had, covered with the tempura crunch, ponzu sauce, and sprinkle of seasoned seaweed on top of a shrimp tempura and crab meat roll . . .yum!), salad, teriyaki beef or chicken, bowl of rice, and miso soup for just $8.50? I usually get the combo, but their other rolls are good too, including volcano (CA roll topped with bake scallops), rainbow, and spider (soft shell crab), etc. They have a delicious Poke bowl or Salad with large chunks of tuna. The sashimi/Nigiri is good too, and reasonable priced. They just got new menus and the prices are $1 or $2 more expansive for dinner, than lunch, but still fairly cheap for sushi. The walls are decorated with an Hawaiian surf themed, while the bathroom is full of Paul Frank things. There is a little sushi bar with about 7 seats. The rest are tables of 2's or 4's and also 2 booths that can fit 8 people. The servers greets you immediately and are always very nice and fast. I've never had a bad experience there. This is a real Japaneses Sushi Restaurant with real Japanese Sushi Chefs and servers, unlike some Korean owned ones out there.
(4)Quynh tram T.
Can be hard to find if it's your first time coming here, but definitely a place to try as they not only have different types of sushi, but a lot of combination plates! I believe lunch ends at 4:30PM, giving you a discount of a dollar (or so) off of your combination plates before the dinner menu is presented. My favorite so far from Full Moon is their crunchy roll; its a hefty portion! I went here today and since I wasn't that hungry, I only ordered their baked green muscles. I've honestly had better, but at least it was something different to try.
(4)Young Y.
OMG, I ate about $70 dollars worth of food by myself. I went with 2 of my petite female friends. We ordered. sashimi combo, salmon sashimi, beef teriyaki with crunchy roll, chirashi bowl and crunch roll, full moon roll, and more rolls.. however, they accidently gave us someone else's order to us hahaha and i ate that too.. it looked like sashimi roll and eel roll kekeke.. we end up ordering over 10+ orders and I still had room to eat Shaved Ice @ Pink berry. The food itself was decent. The place is packed with people. luckily, we arrived just in time.I would've given 4 or 4.5 stars if it had good portion; however, the portion was too small so it deserves 3.5 star. our total bill was $100.
(3)Erika J.
I used to really like this place but food poisoning sucks. Low quality fish. Go spend a few more dollars... It's worth not having to run to the bathroom.
(1)Jason K.
Full moon has actually improved a lot since several years ago. Their rice bowls are no longer doused with teriyaki sauce as if it was a soup. There are some flaws that is standard to places that offer food for a cheaper price. When traveling in a party, you're unable to reserve a table unless your entire party is present. It's combo meals are a good snatch too. It's mainly a good place for lunch. But try to go at odd hours since it tends to get crowded.
(4)Lilee N.
It's in a strip mall and I had my doubts, but I wanted to find a different sushi place near home that wasn't Matsu. Bingo! They have your traditional sushi rolls but they also have a special menu that has nontraditional sushi offerings. My family tried every roll on the special menu and our favorite was the Volcano Roll that has baked scallops and the Healthy Full Moon Roll. If only the Healthy Full Moon Roll came in a spicy version, it'd be the perfect sushi! The atmosphere is not as formal or fancy like that of Matsu and the service is decent at best. The seaweed salad and cucumber salad is a little too salty and skimpy and the miso soup is mediocre at best. Just skip those first courses and go straight to the rolls. It's a no frills... just-go to-get-your-sushi-fix sort of place. Pricing is very very reasonable and actually a steal for sushi. When I came back after a month in Africa, the Healthy Full Moon was the first meal I wanted!
(4)Grace L.
I really LOVE THIS PLACE! I love getting the Full Moon Lunch Special. It's a good deal. Miso Soup. Salad. Rice. California Roll. Teriyaki Beef for only 6.50! SO GOOD and reasonable in price!
(5)James G.
This place has good sushi, great prices but terrible service. This place is really close to my house so I go there often. I always get the Hawaiian Roll with spicy tuna. It is a spicy tuna roll with Poke on top. The Full Moon roll is good. It is all pretty basic but I always get out of there with paying less than 30 bucks. Not bad for fresh cheap sushi. But the Poke is amazing. Love it.
(4)Avigail C.
I'm just going to say that for the price, this place is definitely five stars. I got the avocado roll for $3.50 and I was actually full. Very nice, I am looking forward to returning.
(5)Devi L.
You have to have to try the green mussels. I don't like this particular shellfish that much, but the smelt roe, kewpie, and whatevs sauce they have in it is deelish. Also, anything soft crab is mmMM. :p I don't suggest the sashimi here. It tasted like the 5:30 sashimi at Mitsuwa. For you regular Mitsuwa shoppers, you know. It is not a place to have a first date, unless you want to be casual and noisy about it. There is often a wait on weekends because it's a trendy spot.
(4)Caroline T.
There was a period of time in high school where my bf and I came here for dinner every week for several consecutive months. We always leave feeling satisfied without burning a hole in our pockets. We were really into rolls and slowly tried different things and started our obsession with sushi. We don't go here as much as we use to but once in a while it's nice to have lunch/dinner here and reminisce.
(4)TT T.
5 Stars on Price 3 Stars on Service 3 Stars on Food 2 Stars on Seating/Ambiance I'm a regular. It's fast cheap and convenient sushi.
(4)Mike C.
We have definitely had better. This was our first time here, and we immediately noticed the sushi was not of good quality: - The rice was not flavored properly (didn't detect much flavor at all) and was dried out and much harder than it should be - The yellowtail tasted ok, but was not trimmed entirely properly - I could tell the salmon was bad quality by looking at it. It had that deflated and overly translucent look. It was indeed chewy. - The healthy full moon roll was barely rolled together and actually fell apart on the plate while I looked at it. The fish inside was also not good quality (the white fish in particular had that tough membrane part of the fish in it so it was not chewable- my wife had to spit it out) On the plus side, the ponzu sauce was good and the miso soup was flavorful. Overall, it was a disappointing sushi outing. But, it was really inexpensive, so I suppose you get what you pay for. Given all the other reviews, maybe we just caught them on a really off night?
(2)Champ M.
Cheap and bomb. If you are broke, you can still eat here everyday. Recommended for all. Cool wall photos too.
(3)Ash L.
I really like Full Moon - I am giving it 3 stars, because despite the fact that I really like the place...it is not actually worth 4. Here is why: This place is pretty popular and gets crowded fast. I think many of the people who come here are regulars. The atmosphere is comfortable, but not as modern and hip as so many new sushi places are. The sushi is well priced and standard as far as options - they don't have super crazy combinations with bananas and potatoes in the sushi. Generally it's fresh, and tastes good. There is also tempura, udon, and the like. Generally everything is good and I am always happy with the meal and the price of the total bill. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes the service is just fine, and sometimes it's hard to tell if you even have a server. I think if you are expecting top notch sushi and service not to try it out. BUT if you want a local joint that is casual, good and easy to come to - make Full Moon your regular stop over.
(3)Aline S.
This is my mom and my favorite spot to have lunch locally. I've been here a handful of times now and every time their service has been great. Sushi is good (I recommend their scallop hand roll!) and the prices are right. The presentation of the meal is very good also. Couple favorites of mine are their: Scallop handroll Seaweed salad Sushi/Sashimi combo- lots of food here very reasonably priced! I also hear they opened a location in Costa Mesa- which is great because it's closer to work for me which is always a plus! I will definitely be coming back!
(4)Michael B.
Okay, Full moon is really good but the service sucks really bad. You will never get your order fast and whenever you ask for something expect it to be really late or even forgotten. The sushi itself is good but it seems a bit pricey for the amount given. Best to be enjoyed with family and friends.
(4)Hue N.
My friend and I came here after the restaurant we wanted to go to across the street was closed. When we got here we were surprised at how cheap everything was. Yay for cheap sushi. Since the prices were relatively cheap and I was extremely hungry, I ordered two things: a Full Moon special chicken teriyaki plate that came with miso soup and salad, and a crunchy roll. I LOVED the crunchy roll but was very disappointed with the chicken teriyaki plate. The rice tasted old and the chicken tasted really dry. The California roll that came with the plate was decent, nothing special. The crunchy roll was delicious!! I think that if I just ordered the crunchy roll, I might have given this place 5 stars. I would definitely come back here just for this roll.
(3)Sadie N.
Delicious! I always get the combination lunch or dinner with beef, crunchy roll. The salad is good it has a tangy taste and the soup is great! Miso soup. Always ask for a spoon for the soup when ordering cause it doesn't come with it. Nasty soju don't get it.
(5)matt w.
I have been going to Full Moon for a few years now. The food is good and the service is great. Though the fish isnt the best that you can get but the prices arent super expensive either so it makes up for it. (not saying that the fish is bad, just not super fresh) they have some great combos that come with sushi and a meat of your choice. i love it and i will continue to eat there.
(4)Matt N.
I like this restaurant for two reasons: it's simple and the lobster handroll. You won't expect any marketing schemes or happy hours, this is just a really homey sushi bar. i work at a 'japanese' restaurant and this one is way more authentic.. as in the sushimen are really japanese and the prices are a lot cheaper.
(5)Jason T.
i came here with my friend because i wasnt really in the mood for Shin Sen Gumi Yakitori so we went across the parking lot to check if Full Moon was open. I've never even passed by this place so i didnt know what to expect... I was pleasantly surprised! Like everyone else i'll agree the service isnt lightning quick but it was enough for my standards. The sushi was well-priced and the fish tasted very fresh, i also liked that it was cold, i dont know if that is the proper way to serve sushi but i find it way more tasty than warm fish. All in all i enjoyed the dinner and i would definitely recommend it to people! The waitress was quite cute too! :)
(4)Ashley T.
this was my very first sushi restaurant and i loved it. that was until i tried other sushi restaurants...... this place has mediocre service and the fish quality isn't as great as well. however the prices are affordable for sushi. it always seems that there's always some leftover dishwasher stains on my cup of iced water...... i actually settle for a sprite when i come here after constantly seeing white stuff on my cups.. however, i'd recommend matsu down on beach and talbert!! the service is great and they use FRESH crab meat instead of the cheap imitation crab meat every other sushi restaurant uses. Ehh, i'd still come back to full moon to have lunch butthat's only if matsu isn't an option. and do not get the beef teriyaki because it is dry as heck...
(3)Tiffany N.
I used to love this place. They used to give you alot, now they're skimping on the calamari...and crunchy flakes on my rolls, that are smaller now! But it is cheap..Lunch special: $7 bucks? You get a crunchy roll, teriyaki chicken OR beef , rice , salad, & miso soup. I would still come here though... if i was near or broke & craving sushi lol
(3)Laura R.
I really like Full Moon. They've been here a long time and their food has stayed consistently yummy and fresh. I usually sit at the sushi bar, and the service there is great and the chefs are very friendly. Pricing is VERY reasonable for such a good sushi restaurant.
(4)Luis S.
BEST sushi place for the price in OC!!! The rolls are so freakin good! My faorites are the Cruchy roll, and the Hawaiin roll. And the Poke Salad is so amazing and fresh! Have never had a bad experience here. Must go!
(5)Yen D.
i was extremely disappointed. i thought i just found a rather cheap place (compared to other japanese restaurants) for japanese food. guess what, i was wrong. teriyaki beef bowl was a fail. fried calamari was too chewy and the sauce was so sour. food took forever. wouldn't come back anytime soon.
(2)Kristina K.
I had the Tempura Udon and baked scallop the other day....SAD face. The tempura didn't taste that good and neither did the baked scallop. From now on, I'm sticking to the stuff I know! Combination plates, FTW!
(3)Celine O.
I LOVE FULL MOON!!! My favorite sushi place with the yummiest sushi at the best price! This one is always crowded so i've been going to the new one in costa mesa :) Same great sushi, no waiting. My faves are the Poke Salad, the Jalepeno Yellowtail Roll, and the Full Moon Roll :) Enjoy!
(5)Anthony T.
Great place, very friendly, food is good, i've always had a good experience there. The food is cheap for sushi. I forgot tip once and they came out chasing after me asking "excuse me what was wrong" and i didn't know what he was talking about and then he just says we forgot to leave tip so he was wondering what was wrong. Nothing was wrong we just forgot. Very nice people. The setting is very nice, one thing i dont like is, its very hard to get a big group of people there. the biggest you can probably get is about 6. Their to-go service is very good not to much of a wait.
(5)Mike E.
Place is horrible! Use to be really good and went here last night and it was the worst. Took forever to get the food and then when it came we only got half. I will hands down never go to place again. Go to Sushi Studio in Long Beach that place is great!
(1)Suzn L.
Full Moon has really good volcano rolls and very very cheap uni (only $3 for 2 pieces). The uni is pretty good considering it's sooo cheap. Most of the rolls are pretty good. The sushi is not high end, but considering the prices it's quite tasty. 3.5 stars for the uni, prices, and good portion.
(4)Jimmy N.
When it comes to sushi, I abide by two simple rules: 1. I am poor. 2. I don't know the difference between good sushi and ridiculously great sushi, but I do know when the fish stinks and the rice sucks. Full Moon is very... "eh"... I mean the place is nice, and the food is good enough, and I really don't have anything to complain about, but I can't really rave about this place either. If I lived next door, I would probably eat here often; if I lived 10 minutes away, I probably would find another sushi place. Everything is simply "eh." The problem with Full Moon isn't that there's something really wrong with it, but that it's really lacking anything that really makes it the go-to place. The prices are mediocre, especially for what you get. You may be paying a few bucks, and only a few bucks, less than other places, but the portions and rolls are really small, and the quality simply isn't as good as other places you can find. The food just doesn't make you go "wow" or does it really satisfy the sushi craving. For their credit, I must say that their crunchy and volcano rolls are pretty darn good, and really the only rolls I would ever get there. Note that these rolls, like all the others, are rather small. I must also say that the poke bowl is very enjoyable (though I do have a positive bias towards fish and rice bowls). Conclusion: Unless I lived ridiculously close, I would rather fork up a few more bucks and go somewhere else.
(3)Ryan R.
Have been going here for years and was disappointed yesterday. The rolls were miniature size. Prices are good but come on. Make the rolls bigger!
(4)John P.
As of late, full moon has gone down hill. A lot of the staff has changed. They always run out of blue fin albacore.
(1)Stephanie N.
The people here are so nice and the fish is really fresh! Prices are really reasonable too!! My cousin took me here because she LOVES it here and I found her to be a good judgment of food. The service is exceptional; not much to complain about. The sushi chefs also always said bye and hello to all the customers. I liked that. The place is kinda small but it's good if you're looking for some well priced fresh fish.
(4)Michelle H.
I love this place a lot. It's the one place that I take my friends if we want to eat sushi for an affordable price. I always get the combo and a roll of whatever sushi I feel like eating when I visit. Lately the place has been getting pretty popular, so the wait just to get seated can go from 30 minutes to even an hour. The place is pretty small, too.
(4)Ly L.
I'm here every Saturday for lunch :)
(4)Sam R.
Food is good for the price. Service is eh
(4)Brittany A.
This place makes me crave spicy tuna handrolls. Friendly staff
(5)Kelly C.
I really like this place and am surprised to see it doesn't have a higher rating than it does. The sushi, from the couple of times I've been here, is fresh (which is THE most important thing from a sushi place). Nothing like getting a piece of raw fish that will melt in your mouth! Man, I've been places where the fish tastes fishy... that is SO wrong! The price is super reasonable. You know how most sushi places will charge you $10+ for a special-type roll? Well, you can get the same roll for $7-8 here. And their special rolls are quite incredible. Anything with the garlic on top is fantastic (Garlic Tuna... mmmm). Their Super California is my all-time favorite roll (I'm a big fan of unagi). If you sit at the bar, the sushi chefs aren't super friendly but they are on top of things and they'll talk to you if you talk to them. And they always check on whether you need a refill on your drink. The biggest con is the service at the table. I don't know if it's because they don't have enough waiters but sometimes it takes FOREVER to have your order taken and then ANOTHER forever to receive your orders. It's cool if you're with friends and you're chatting but if you're hungry or in a hurry, good luck! Hm, don't want to end this review on a bad note. Let's see... don't expect a gourmet sushi place. Full Moon is a place to get pretty good sushi for a great price. Take it from me, I've lived in Japan. =)
(4)Winnie W.
the best CRUNCHY ROLL EVER! I've yet to find a comparable crunchy roll and I live in Hawaii! epicenter of fresh seafood! I love this place so much, after shopping at SCP, I drove down there, sat at the sushi bar alone and ordered the roll, 2 hours before my dinner plans :) needless to say I wasn't very hungry for dinner. the poke salad is also great! fresh ahi and tasty dressing that'll give ALL Hawaii renditions of this salad a run for its money! calamari is tangy and great, dynamite roll (w scallop) is small but packs a punch. the other items are just alright... i.e. teri chicken, udon, katsu. service is fickle but overall very amiable. LOVE this place!
(5)Mike K.
Decent sushi when you just need a fix, but not sushi that makes you have cravings to go back.
(3)Bob D.
True it's not consistent top notch on the service end but they don't seem to be mean for means sake it appears to be not really knowing any better in a somewhat genuine sense. Where else can you get a pitcher and rolls plus sushi that is a bit above average to very good for that price. Nowhere that I know of. If you need to have your doors blown off service and quality wise this might not be the place, it's the Honda Civic of sushi bars. Pretty darn good value for dollar. 2901 Macarthur Blvd will get you the best authentic Sushi that I have seen in this area. Sushi Murasaki. Always 60 bucks or above though by myself.
(5)Ashley H.
Delicious! By far my favorite sushi place. The garlic roll is amazing,
(5)Mike K.
I like Full Moon. Reasonable price for decent Japanese food. Great for lunches! I agree with the other review that the tables are way too close to each other; it just isn't comfortable.
(4)Cameron P.
If I could give it no stars or negative stars I would. This place used to be the place for me if I needed my sushi fix for cheap. There were many things that I dismissed simply because I befriended the sushi chefs and they were always cool and friendly. Things that I dismissed: -Hand rolls are probably the smallest ever. -Portions are small, but you get what you pay for. -Fresh fish is a must and this place does not always have it. -Rolls in general are average. -Poke is ok only because there aren't many other restaurants around serving it, but coming from Hawaii and having the real thing, this poke is a weak attempt at a Hawaiian staple. Although, my major gripe with the place is the service. You have to wait forever to get your food. (another thing I dismissed in the past). I have been coming here for years and I've brought many friends here. However, the last time my friend and I were there..and it will be my last time....rude is truly an understatement of the kind of service that was displayed... I literally had to stop my friend before he strangled the waiter who took our order. I hadn't been there in about a year and upon return... what normally is a jovial, welcoming greeting from the head chef, turned out to be the complete opposite. The guy looked up, noticed me and muttered "oh it's Cameron" and continued to his sushi duties. Not the regular, "what's up!" followed by a pound or hand shake. Was not coming in for a year grounds for this kind of greeting? What's going on with him? I thought. I brushed it off and my friend and I sat down at the bar to order some food... stoked because haven't seen each other in awhile and we're about to eat sushi... When my friend decided to get some sushi to go... the head chef then spat out a negatively toned, "oh you can't sit here! you have to order that over there!" I'm a pretty cool headed person, so I'm thinking alright, To's having a bad day and got up with my friend to place our order in the "appropriate" place. Whatever. Here's where it gets interesting. We're placing our order and by this time we're starving...so we continue to add more rolls and items as we're kind of thinking out loud about what we want next. Think about it, if you're the order taker... we're just adding more money in the businesses pocket.... We must have paused for 10 seconds or so to think about our next roll, before we could spit out our next item...the kid yells at my friend, "IS THAT IT?!" We honestly couldn't believe what we just heard. It was like sushi service hell. And my friend who's not so cool headed, really had enough and confronted the waiter and said, "wait, did you just say that to me?" The waiter didn't back down and replied rudely, "IS THAT IT?!" again. I literally had to step in between and physically put a hand on my buddy to keep him from pounding the dude's face in.. or choking him out.. either or. We probably had about $80 worth of sushi and counting... that we cancelled and we left fuming. We walked in happy and left like what the f*ck just happened? I don't care how busy your restaurant is, you never treat LOYAL customers that way. You never treat any customer that way. You're in the service business for God sakes. Needless to say, I will never go back. Again, there were a lot of things that I dismissed about the place anyway and the only saving grace were the cool chefs there. Take that away and add insult to injury and you've got yourself a pretty piss poor establishment.

I come here often for some casual lunch/dinner dates with friends. It's friendly to the non-sushi eater- they have excellent california and crunchy rolls. I particularly enjoy their sashimi plates. As far as taste, this place gets 5-stars. As far as service, I'd give it 3. Don't expect too much attention from the servers- you'll have to flag 'em down if you want a refill on water or if you want to order more food. But if you're looking for a tasty, casual, reasonably-priced sushi spot, this is always a safe bet.

Great sushi with "hip" atmosphere...not your father's sushi bar.
(4)graciee h.
this place is one of my favorite sushi spots. i always order tons of rolls (volcano, crunchy, eel cucumber, hawaiian) and the poke salad. the salad is great. they seriously dump a handful of tuna into it and it always tastes so fresh. whether it's dine-in or to-go I LOVE THIS PLACE.
(4)Tim P.
I've been eating at this place forever. However, I only get take out and only get the Hawain Roll and the Spicy Tuna Hand Roll. I just keep it cheap and tasty.

Worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. Shin-sen-gumi was closed for lunch, so my friends came here because it was in the same plaza. Food: I was sick when I came here with my friends, so I got the chicken udon. I could barely taste the food because of my illness, but the times I could taste the udon was mediocre, at best. The broth and udon was similar to most hole -in-the-wall Japanese places, but the chicken was EXTREMELY low quality. It tasted and felt old. And I'm almost pretty sure it was old. A couple minutes into my meal I picked up a piece of bland, boiled chicken with my chop sticks and saw a clear, slimy discharge dripping down the chicken. At first I thought it was just solidified piece of onion, and so I compared a strand of onion from my soup. Nope, discharge like substance and onion totally different, My friend said that it looked like pre-cum. So that's when I stopped eating. A couple friends ordered sushi combos. The salmon looked farm and injected with red dye. It was unlike any color I've ever seen on salmon, for sure. The tuna and other fish certainly weren't fresh. I mean...the prices are really affordable and you're definitely getting what you pay for at this joint. Crap. Service: The service was slow. Our waitress took forever to get our drink order. The place wasn't packed or anything, but she may have been the only waitress working at the time. Our food came in weird orders. Like one person would get their entree, but not their soup, rice or salad. We had to keep on asking her, "excuse me, but doesn't this combo also come with..." We had to keep on telling her what she was missing. Which got old, fast. Anyway, this place is waste of time and money. Go anywhere else but here.
(1)Tom h.
I really enjoyed this place. I used to go here a lot a few years ago and I am glad I went back. It was great. The service was terrific. The sushi chefs really took care of us. I never had to look at the menu since I was getting their recommendations, and ordering things I knew I liked. Good prices, but if you eat sushi like I do, it adds up quickly with the beer (pitchers of Kirin) and sake. It is a small place, but the better sushi places I have been to are small.
(4)Nicole W.
I have ordered take out from here many many times and never disappointed. I always order the Hawaiian Roll, Crunchy Roll and the Spicy Tuna and they are AWESOME! If you want fast, inexpensive sushi than this is the place to go.
(4)Monica P.
This was one of my favorite sushi places to go to when in lived in Fountain Valley. I always ordered the crunchy roll, volcano roll, salmon special roll (i looove salmon!), rainbow roll and/or tuna, salmon, halibut or yellowtail sushi. Its fresh and the prices are really reasonable. The service is pretty good as well. Thumbs up!
(4)Jane P.
One of my favorite sushi spots in the OC. I've tried the spicy tuna roll, lobster hand roll, crunchy roll, and scallop hand roll and I demolished all of them in a matter of seconds. All the fish seems very fresh and top quality and they were very fast in making the rolls and bringing them to our table. The sushi chefs are very friendly and are happy to to drink shots of sake with you! The prices are definitely on the cheap side and the portions are very filling :]
(4)Grace K.
Tried it for the first time with my kids, and it was good for the price. Good lunch combos and rolls. Wouldn't go there for the straight sushi, but if you have kids and want basic variety(ie udon, teriyaki stuff, and some special rolls), it's a good place to go. The service was good. I liked the "Hawaii" atmosphere.
(4)Tod B.
Cheap, good sushi is hard to find. But full moon delivers. Quick but good service. The chefs are cool, and always make great food recommendations. Cool place to come with friends.
(3)San N.
Service - Average Environment - Clean, tables are situated close together, very plain decor. Wait - None for lunch on Saturday. Price - Average Food - Decent when you have cravings. 1. Beef Terriyaki Bowl - Looked decent. Big portions. 2. Yellowtail roll with Jalapeno - Average. Fish was cut very thin. 3. Crunchy Hand Roll - Crispy nori and shrimp was just fried and still warm.
(3)Andre Y.
Full Moon holds the special honor of being the location where I had the worst cut of tuna in my life. I've had some distinctively average tuna here and there, but the order I received was cut entirely wrong. The two pieces were RIDICULOUSLY fibrous, stringy, and near tasteless. After giving them a good fifteen seconds of chewing, I gave up and spit them out onto a napkin, completely appalled. It's not just the fish, either. You'd think that something like a crunchy roll would be hard to mess up, but it is completely overloaded with the crunch batter, the shrimp tempura in it seems almost stale, and it's overly salty in general. The spicy tuna and rainbow rolls are palatable, and are average quality at an average price, but any place that can't do those right shouldn't be in the business of selling sushi. Their service could also use some serious work. They screwed up one of my pick-up orders before, which is understandable since at some point, any restaurant offering take-out will inevitably do this, but they just handled the situation poorly. I had ordered a few rolls and nigiri for myself and a friend, gone to pick it up, tipped them five bucks as a courtesy, brought it home, and I got a phone call from them right when I walked in the door saying they think they messed up my order. I opened the bag, and lo and behold, two teriyaki chicken and rice boxes greeted my eyes. I confirmed that I had received the wrong order, and the guy asked me to bring the food back and pick up my sushi. My first thought was "Uh, I took the food out of the restaurant, opened the boxes, they have no idea what I might have done with it, and they want it back? What are they going to do with the food, re-serve it? Isn't that illegal? Won't they just throw it away if they don't?" But, I brought it back, and the guy handed me a box with the proper order in it (that had been sitting there for a good forty minutes now), and took the two teriyaki chicken orders back and said "Alright, sorry bout that." I understand there is no obligation to do anything for me, but as someone who has worked in the service industry, it's just bad form to waste someone's time by giving them the wrong food, call and ask them to bring it back, and give them their box of raw fish that's been sitting around for the better part of an hour without offering anything more than a "my bad." Eons ago when I was in high school, I used to frequent the place because, after all, it's not that hard to screw up a california roll, some rice, and chicken teriyaki - especially when the three are served as a combo for $7. But as I tried more and more places, Full Moon faded quickly from my mind as even a viable sushi choice. Once in a while I stop by just because it's at a convenient location, but then I never go again until I forget how mediocre it really is. There really isn't any reason to go anymore - Funashin is right down the street (SE corner of Brookhurst and Talbert), Kobe is a couple blocks further (Slater and Ward), and other sushi places are all within 10 minutes driving distance. I hesitate to give it just one star because that rating seems like it should be reserved for the crappiest of the crappy and the food here isn't atrociously bad, but I'm going to give it anyway because I see the five-star rating system as an overall "worth going to" gauge, and there really is no reason to go to Full Moon when there are other alternatives that are easily accessible and have better food at comparable prices.
(1)Troy H.
Their sushi tends to fall apart on the nigiri. Though they have a few creative things, overall presentation is so-so. And don't order sushi to go here!
(2)Steve C.
This was my default sushi place for a while, and the food is fine. Nice selection of rolls, and combos with tempura (or teriyaki, but I always get the tempura) and a california or crunchy roll are tasty and a good value. The crunchy rolls are a better choice than the california rolls which are pretty plain. Like I said, it was my default sushi place, but I've drifted away. The sushi is good, but it's not great by any means. But the main thing is, the restaurant is just too cramped. Parties of two are often seated in a row of tables against the window where the neighboring table is probably less than two feet away. Not comfortable at busy times. The servers are nice. And the food is ok. Really if it weren't for the cramped quarters I'd give it four stars.
(3)Landon Y.
Very reasonably priced, friendly staff, and Japanese sushi chefs! One of the hidden gems in OC. I highly recommend the Poke Salad.
(4)Stacy O.
I love this place! Excellent rolls, outstanding prices, friendly customer service (could be faster though). So many sushi bars only give you what you pay for, but this place is so cheap in price, but the size, quantity, and quality do not suffer.
(4)Lily S.
This place is ALWAYS packed & I can eat about $60 worth of sushi by myself! These people LAGG on your order! They'll bring out one plate as a teaser, then make you wait for like 15minutes then bring out another, and so forth. Service is really bad, the waiters continuously disappear & sometimes they even forget part of your order. Unsatisfying. This place would have to be my last choice to eat sushi at. 1STAR!
(1)Helen N.
Full Moon is not that bad. Service is kinda slow sometimes. The rolls are cheap and you do get what you pay for. I enjoy this place because when I want fairly okay sushi at a low cost, I know full moon is the place to go.
(4)Nikki S.
I don't know what it is, but their Spicy Tuna just does not taste good to me....some of my friends like this place so I decided to give it a 3rd chance last night, and I was more disappointed then ever. For 3 rolls, and 2 house salads it was $40.00, and what a waste that was. Their rice is DISGUSTING. I totally prefer Sushi Top, another smaller sushi place in HB. I think their sushi is overly FISHY tasting, and I just have decided I will never return. At Sushi Top, they have an amazing house salad with Miso dressing, and their Spicy Tuna is not super fishy tasting, and it's mixed with a "special" spicy sauce....I mean if your deciding between this place and another, don't waste your time or money!!!
(2)Shara N.
It was average. Service was okay, took them a bit for us to get our check. It was only 20$ for me and my friend, so that was good. ( This included tip) Pretty much, it was a good little sushi snack for us. At least, it didn't remind me of mall sushi which can kill you sometimes, i say. I really liked the Crunchy Roll, though. It was deli-sh.
(3)Christine N.
CHEAP = cheap poor quality sushi. Yuck. It is pretty cheap here, but ewww the Sushi was so bad! For even cheaper Sushi, yet better tasting, try (Ok, I forgot the name of the place LOL let me go look it up).... Taiyo Japanese Restaurant on Beach & Garden Grove. I know that the place is Korean owned and it's not the best tasting sushi ever, but it's CHEAP! Cheaper then this darn place, and taste way better!
(2)Tricia B.
Cheap sushi that tastes good and doesn't smell fishy or make you sick. Sake is cheap here, too, and I love me some sake. If you're looking for something fancy, go elsewhere. If you're a poor mofo like me who likes sushi and sake on a budget, Full Moon might be just the place to scratch that itch for you.
(4)Rod V.
Nice little sushi bar! I only give it a 3 out of 5 stars buz last time I checked they didn't have an All You Can Eat! yeah yeah I know! I'm a pig! But their actual sushi and rolls are great! The chefs are funny and have great personalities! The restaurant has modern music (102.7) playin all the time! So it's pretty hip! I voted not great for groups because it's a tight fit for any group over 6!
(3)Binh D.
Always a fan of Full Moon. Want decent sushi for an affordable price? You found it! Waiters are quick with stuff usually, more of a young atmosphere. Cheapest, decent sushi place I know of. I basically order this every time i go. Salmon Special roll, Volcano Roll, Spicy yellow tail roll, and Spicy scallop hand roll. NO ONE beats their Volcano Roll. Just wanted to put that out there
(4)Kevin P.
You get your food fast, and it's pretty decent. Also not too expensive. Ambiance is meh. It's a good stop if you're looking for quick sushi. Also, not sure if I'm the only one who thinks this... but there is something funky in there - smell-wise. I've been there twice and both times it smells a little too fishy or something. Both times my friends didn't smell it but trust me, it's there. You may be thinking "of course it smells like fish, it's raw fish you're eating." But that's not the point. First of all there is sushi grade fish and then normal fish. Sushi grade fish usually doesn't smell like supermarket fish, and that's because they are not the same quality. In any case, it tastes fine, but the smell was pretty distracting/unnerving.

so im gonna have to agree with all the reviews for this pace. i a few years ago woulda givin this place a five star review but lately i dont know whats been goin on this passed year or 2. sad to say but i absolutley HATE the service here. it bumms me out when im coming to a place ive been to for years and have to leave a shitty tip for a server thats gotten my table a few times and i cant stand her. like when im at the bar awsome. i love the guys. i dont know whats going on with their establishment but they need to do something fast or i dont know what will happen. i think full moon..get some friendlier servers and the chefs will be happier from not getting shitty complaints from customers making for a happier environment all together making for a better business. full moon i hope you read these reviews. were all just here to help u guys out. get rid f the depressed japanese chicks, hire a pumped staff....gravy baby. foods great.
(3)Mitsu M.
My friend and I were looking for a quick bite of Japanese food and we decide to head here. He warned me that food here is, "edible, nothing more." True to his word, it was terrible. The service is just as horrible. I asked for a simple request of some spice and it never arrived. They'll not fill your water up if you don't flag them down. But they sure were fast to take my bill. I didn't like the fact that we had to sit so close to strangers. I could hear every conversation by us. My Katsu-don tasted like I made it. That's how bad it was. Not to stereo-type or offend anyone, but look at all the Asian Yelpers that reviewed this joint. Most of them hated it. Full Moon maybe able to fool few non-Asians, but it's not gonna fool an authentic jap like me. This place is pretty cheap, but you get what you paid for.
(2)Melissa M.
Yum! I love the volcano and crunchy rolls. They always seem so busy, which obviously means the food is great, but if you have a big party, you definitely want to go early or you'll have to wait
(4)Dana G.
We are way too lucky to have such a great sushi restaurant so close to home. We can't get enough of this place. And if we didn't retain so much water the day after consuming soy sauce, we would come here more than twice a month. I tend to get the same thing every time, why venture out of my comfort zone if I know what's good? Husband and I share the sesame chicken and ahi poke salad (seriously the best salad, right next to Koi's house salad). I always get seared ahi sushi, unagi sushi, a lobster hand roll, then split a crunchy roll and spicy yellowtail roll with the hubbie. He likes the bento boxes or combo dinner; he's Asian but likes to order from the kitchen. Go figure. The Hawaiian roll is awesome too. Oh and we always get Sayuri (sp?) unfiltered cold sake, it's sweet and oh so delicious. Prices are great, food is great, service is getting better. They get so busy it's hard to ask for your bill. Guess they want you to keep ordering. Try this place. Do it.
(5)Joe B.
For a very casual atmosphere with delicious sushi and japanese food at a very reasonable price, I would have you check this place out. There are two location
(3)Kym C.
I love this place, not much else to say. Oh POKE!!! It is amazing here, amazing!!! Their second location is in Costa Mesa and their is never a wait. This being the first location is has a special place in my heart, but if #1 is crowded, take the 10 minute drive to #2! it is worth it!
(5)Danica D.
every time ive been to this location the service is awful. one time i got my drink spilled all over me.another time the waitress decided she needed to take the soy sauce and what not even though i told her i was still using it. not all that friendly either.food is alright. but i much prefer the costa mesa location off of harbor and baker.
(2)Grace C.
Very good value for the food that you get. Since I literally live a minute from this place, I've definitely been here three nights in a row before..
(4)Van P.
service = ok food = crap sushi is ok chicken teriyaki is crap the place is small and its a bitch getting a table sometimes. parking is good since it's located by RALPHS. the price is good overall it sucks. =/ i've been to better sushi places.
(3)Jonathan L.
Where can you find a decent rainbow roll for $7.50? Full Moon Restaurant! This place has pretty good stuff for reasonable prices. The menu isn't all-encompassing of Japanese food, but they have the basic essentials - teriyaki bowls, udon, and most popular rolls. The chicken teriyaki bowl is simple but solid. The fish is fresh. The sushi is not mind blowing, but it will definitely put your sushi craving to rest. As an added bonus, you might find some good looking people here... If you've never been here, it's definitely worth a shot. Not the BEST, but better than a lot of places I've been to.
(4)Linda N.
Good sushi for a good price. I don't think I've gotten anything other than the crunchy roll which is tasty but I've sampled the teriyaki chicken and was pretty impressed for not being a fan of sweet meats. I've also never had a problem with seating because somehow, I've always ended up in a booth. But I think I need to start ordering something different.
(4)mary l.
Expectations blown outta the water!! Incrediblyequality of fish at a very decent price. My boyfriend and I went twice over the period of 2.5 days. We ordered a lunch item [$7.95 inclusive of salad, miso soup, and rice] and sushi rolls and the bill never totalled more than $33. In New York, the sushi meal we had would at least have been $50. The service was awesome - my water glass was always filled, the staff was lovely, and fast. We got in, housed some sushi and left in the period of 36 minutes. I would absolutely go again if I returned to CA. The Full Moon roll was especially delicious as was the sashimi lunch platter [$7.95]
(5)Lina T.
This place is to be If you are looking for a good or decent Japanese place! How's the sushi??um.. I've had better.. When I'm here with a friend for lunch we usually order the teriyaki chicken combination and it comes with crunchy roll, then we also order salmon sashimi , and sesame chicken! Yummm.... Great quick place to eat and everyones nice!
(3)Andy N.
The food here is awesome. The amount of food you get is the best. I love the lunch/dinner specials. You get a crunchy roll , teriyaki chicken , rice , salad , and miso soup . I come here pretty often and its a nice place to go. I totally recommend this place to everyone who wants to eat sushi for a good deal. If you haven't been here then you should come out.
(5)Lillian L.
i love this place, ive always came here for sushi with my family as a kid. it's a convenient and decent sushi place nearby my house and it satisfies my family. for their prices, i can't complain much about this place. the only drawback is that they dont have as crazy foods as kappo honda and that the tables are SOOO fricken close together. when it's crowded, thats when i can feel really uncomfortable. if your friends are claustrophobic, try not to bring them over during lunch/dinner hours.
(4)Namia N.
This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants to go to. I usually get the Poke Bowl, which is small pieces of fish on top of rice and drizzled in their special Poke sauce. The fish usually consists of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail, however there is an occasional octopus. I also LOVE their salmon special (salmon over a california roll), the spyder roll (deep fried soft shell crab wrapped in a california roll), and the volcano roll (a baked california roll with scallops on top and drizzled with a special sauce). The waiters are usually pretty friendly and the food is VERY affordable!
(5)Liam O.
Simple sushi spot. This is usually a place where I go if I want an inexpensive and easy lunch. Not the best sushi in the world, but considering the prices, it's pretty amazing.
(4)Lisa N.
All I can remember is that they forgot my order, TWICE. I was sitting there starving and waiting for my food for forever and I find the waitress and she says that I didn't order it. So I let that go since the meal would take forever to prepare, I re-ordered salmon sushi and a crunchy roll, instead. They forgot the crunchy roll. I wasn't very hungry anymore so I was about to just let it go but the food came out about 40 minutes later when we were about to ask for the bill and I was already semi-full because I stole some of my friend's food. It wasn't even satisfying, there was nothing crunchy about this crunchy roll. When we came in they were nearly empty but after 30 minutes, seats started to fill up but damn, shouldn't my orders be priority! The sushi and the teriyaki chicken wasn't fantastic so I can't even raise a star for it. This place made me feel crappy. End of story.
(1)Cat P.
One of my favorite places near home. Everything is so reasonably priced. My favorites are the crunchy roll and the volcano roll. The rolls tend to be on a the smaller side compared to most places I've been but it doesn't stop me from coming back. 4 stars for when service is a tad slow and you have to sit too close to other people.
(4)Zarkle B.
The halibut, blue fin tuna, and poke appetizer here are awesome. If I'm in the area, I'll call ahead and order a take out order of the poke. It is so tasty. The sushi chef are super cool and they have cheap draft beer.
(5)Andrew N.
My default quick sushi place. Extremely affordable for the servings and the food is good. Service could be better, but you can't beat the value.
(4)Fannie M.
I'm a regular customer and usually order a combo with Crunchy roll. I'd say that I couldn't find other sushi restuarant that their crunchy roll is as good as this place.
(4)long v.
not the best sushi in the world but for the price and portions... this place kicks butt! If your in for a DEAL, which with the economy how it is, and me being on a part time job basis now.. this place wont hurt the wallet. Most of the time, i get the salmon special and a volcano roll which is pretty good , or just get their teriayaki chicken or steak combos which are the best deals. the place can get pretty packed on saturdays during luch but at any other times you're sure to get a table quickly.
(4)Gman B.
food was good... service was fast... never had an empty glass... volcano roll was very the best... prices were very cheap...
(4)Tom E.
This is my favorite sushi place ever (so far). I love going there and getting the Poke Sushi! I'm still trying to find a place that compares. Quick, easy sushi... and delicious!
(4)Arnold E.
I'd have to agree with the rest of the reviewers on this one. Full Moon is great for a quick sushi fix. They skimp with the decor, but that money saved goes right back into the food. You get a good amount for what you pay and it's pretty good. Service (in my experience) has been relatively quick. I had a friend from Japan that used to waitress here and even she said the food here was pretty good. Based on that alone, I'd recommend this place for lunch or dinner. Enjoy!
(4)Leanne H.
The rolls here are average, but I absolutely love the calamari and dip. The restaurant is somewhat small and can get crowded at times. The workers there are mainly Japanese and pretty friendly. It is located in the plaza with the Ralphs/Rite Aid.
(3)Helen H.
I've been here a dozen times and always order the full moon special with crunchy roll and chicken teriyaki (which comes with rice, miso soup, and a small salad) I've also tried the spicy tuna rolls and also salmon skin salad. All have been excellent. I think they use the same teriyaki sauce on a lot of their dishes (i.e., on chicken, beef, and certain sushi), but I don't mind since I like the sauce. You may want to reconsider what your order if you don't though. The prices are pretty reasonable and the service is usually good. :) The only con about this place is that it's a small restaurant and you'll usually be seated uncomfortably close to another couple if you come with another person....but oh well, it's worth a visit for the food. Also, be ready for a bit of a wait if you come by around dinner time on Friday or Saturday evenings...so plan ahead. They also do phone orders so you can ditch the wait by calling in an order. Yay for full moon! FYI, They also just opened a new location in Costa Mesa too.
(4)Casey B.
I have been going to Full Moon Sushi for 3 years, I'm actually writing this review at the restaurant right now with a salmon special roll right in front of me waiting to be devoured! Me and my gf love this place! The service is great and the prices are even better. I fully recommend eating here and I promise you, you will be back! Came here the first time by accident and haven't stop coming back!. Try it you will love it! Recommend: Everything
(5)Le D.
The sushi shop is a bit small, but the food is pretty decent! My friend has never tried sushi before, so I took him here, since it was close by. We ordered some nigiri, the Super California Roll, and a Hawaiian Roll, which the server suggested. The rolls were very neatly presented and tasty! Sauces were just the right amount, and the salmon nigiri was very good. I'll have to take some of the others' suggestions and try the baked scallop dishes next time. My friend enjoyed the salmon and the Super CA roll, maybe I'll get him to try more of the raw offerings, but not a bad start. We'll try it again soon! Prices are pretty good, but service seemed a bit slow to start off. It was a Sunday evening, and it rained, so it was probably busier than usual, but the experience was pleasant after we got going.
(4)Tyler T.
This place ended up just being okay. There was an authentic and nice feel to the restaurant, but when the actual food came out, the food wasn't all that good. We ordered the Full Moon Roll, the Cucumber Roll, and one of the Dinner Specials that came with Tempura and a Crunchy Roll. The Full Moon Roll and Cucumber Roll were very similar in design. They both had fish in the middle of the roll, but it didn't feel like all that much food. They came with dipping sauces but I didn't really feel the dips went all too well with the rolls. The flavor just felt off at some points. It was overall good tasting but not all that special. The crunchy roll was kind of boring too, mainly just crunch and not much else beyond that. The tempura dish was also passable too, nothing noteworthy or remarkable, it felt like just eating tempura at any genetic Japanese restaurant.
(3)Kelsey L.
Very slow service. OK sushi. CONS: * I had to keep asking for things. For example, more water, the soy sauce plate, the check, etc. * The difficulty of even trying to flag down a waiter! There was one main guy running around, and another girl barely even walking around doing anything. I feel like they need more staff? Or they need to be trained to multi-task better. * Unusual long wait for our food. * Unusual long wait for our check. PROS: * Cheap in price, so if I'm ever craving sushi but not wanting to burn a hole in my wallet. SUGGESTIONS: * Healthy Full Moon roll * Lunch combo! Any of them. * If you come during lunch, prices are a dollar or two cheaper. * Card for purchases of $10 or higher. So BRING CASH!
(2)Diamond L.
Love the sushi rollls! Especially the salmon one! I am already drooling as I'm typing this review. The teriyaki isn't great though but that's okay! The baked salmon makes up for it! The line can get long over the weekend and the place is extremely tight and small
(4)Jessica P.
Although this is not the most amazing sushi spot, it's good enough for me to come back whenever it's convenient and I'm in the area. What I like here is the price and lightness of the sushi rolls that are offered. With that being said, it always just depends on what is ordered whether it's a 'light' or 'heavy' meal. I feel like here at Full Moon, their rolls are really limited; not much of a variety here. However the rolls that are not the usual California rolls/generic ones, they're very unique, light, and fresh. The price here is great for the rolls, averaging around only $7.50 a roll, no more than $9. I love that the spider roll here is $7.50, usually that roll is on the pricer side because of the soft shell crab. The sashimi here isn't worth it to me, their cut is very thin compared to other sushi restaurants that I like. I really would just come here for the rolls, depending on what I felt like eating for the day. Full Moon isn't my first choice of a sushi spot to go to, however when I do go, I enjoy my meal nevertheless.
(4)Vicki V.
Always great service here. I came about 40min til closing and they still accommodated us at the bar with smiles. You get a little moist towelette to wipe your hands. The wasabi and ginger came out on a little leaf. Everyone there was in a good mood and eating good food. I decided to try the: spider roll: a little too salty for my taste, mb too much sauce? crunchy roll: delicious, super crunchy just the way i like it. hawaiian roll: came with big chunks of tuna, refreshing (chefs fav) salmon nigiri: omg this melts in your mouth! fresh and delicious baked scallop appetizer: this was a little too watery and the rice was hard to eat since it was watery. I wish there was more mayo sauce and they let it bake for longer. overall a nice clean friendly restaurant that locals frequent and make it their usual sushi spot. I would return.

The sushi is good for the price. It's a good place if you wanna grab a quick meal as there is usually little wait. You probably have had better sushi but for a higher price and a longer wait. If you're a local to Fountain Valley, come and try this place out and support your local community at the same time.
(4)Christina C.
I really enjoy this place a lot. Their sushi is top notch. They are friendly enough. The only down side is sometimes the service is a little slow. And also a lot of the workers don't really understand English well. But I love it here and we come all the time. I would definitely recommend!
(4)Kayson W.
Would not recommend coming here. There are so many amazing sushi restaurants in the area in similar price range, with delicious menus, and most importantly, treat you well. Why spend any money at a restaurant that doesn't care about its customers? The service here is just awful... - Servers completely ignore and avoid you. We were a group of 7 in a very small restaurant, and had to wave/flag multiple people over for a course of 5 minutes before any of the 6+ servers bothered stopping by. It should not be so difficult to get plates, utensils, soy sauce, wasabi, water. - Food takes at least 15 minutes to come out. Sashimi is generally a very quick and easy product - not sure why we had to wait fifteen minutes for a slice over rice. - They charged us gratuity even though 1) it's no longer allowed and 2) we were only a group of 7. Of course this is because management is tired of getting bad tips for terrible service. Every one in my group left frustrated. Management desperately needs to train its staff in customer service. I'd happily pay DOUBLE for a restaurant where I can eat, be merry, and have a good time without having to wait 20 minutes for a plate.
(1)Randy L.
The manager of this place charged us gratuity for 4 people. I don't recommend you coming here. The service is horrible. They give you attitude when they take your order. Do not come here.
(1)Kenny D.
Charged me gratuity for something I didn't need to pay at all. Server wouldn't let us talk to manager and did not let us leave until we pay. DO NOT COME HERE. Terrible service too
(1)Alastair L.
Had the poke bowl and crunchy roll. Flavorful but would like to try the spicy tuna roll next time i come. Best times to come is during their lunch special. Deals deals deals.
(5)Judy N.
If u are a sushi newbie this spot is for u! Which was me 10 years ago when I started out eating Crunchy rolls for the first time. Now having a wider variation in taste for sushi & giving this place another try again I wouldn't even consider coming back. First, the wait took waaay too long for a sashimi bowl & my volcano roll.. my bf & I waited 30 mins for this but what blew my mind even more was getting our 2 smelt egg sushi LAST, ugh, are you kidding me?!! What was more upsetting was to see the sashimi bowl with a couple slices of fish & a heaping mound of rice. I did like the volcano roll on the other hand but I just think Full Moon would be fine for first time sushi beginners wanting to play it safe with raw fish.
(2)Manuel S.
Great food. Good quality and always consistent. Love the baked scallop. Highly recommended.
(5)Nancy Q.
The amount of food you get on their lunch specials it's humongous! And it's fresh and delicious
(4)Natasha L.
Full Moon is just one of those Americanized sushi places. But for the price, the sushi is pretty good. The crunchy roll does the job, the poke bowl is decent. The saving grace here is the baked scallop roll. SO GOOD. I haven't had baked scallop better anywhere else. The amaebi is pretty good too, and when they have it, the uni is decent. The sushi is just okay. If you're looking for a more traditional place that prides itself on quality, you're looking at the wrong place. But if you want cheap, decent sushi, come here. I get this place to go whenever I want a quick sushi fix but I'm not willing to get ready for a nice place, or when I want to eat a lot for a decent price. I haven't had a bad experience with to go. Sometimes the rolls end up a little demented looking because of the car ride, but that's to be expected for to go, and is my own fault.
(4)Tiffany T.
If you're looking for some simple sushi for a decent price this is the place to go! The best thing about Full Moon is the lunch special that includes a miso soup, salad, bowl of rice, choice of teriyaki beef or chicken, and a sushi roll of your choice. All for the beautiful price of under $10! (Prices vary according to what roll you choose) Side note: this place is kind of small, so it's not a good idea to bring large groups here.
(3)Jennifer H.
Decent speciality rolls if you're not too picky. The rolls fall apart before it even gets onto your plate. Service was pretty slow in my opinion .. But it is cheaper than most places. Give it a try if you're in the area.

This was our first time here. We live really close and shop in the shopping center a lot and there always seems to be a line waiting to be seated. We went this past Saturday right when they opened for lunch. There was already 1/2 the tables filled. With such a rush of people they handled things well and got drinks to everyone and orders taken in a quick manner. I had the poke bowl and a volcano roll. The poke bowl was pretty good. The volcano roll was a California Roll with baked scallops on top of it. It was ok. I would order something different next time. My wife ordered the muscles and a soft shell crab. The portion for the soft shell crab was big. The taste was good as well. My wife said the muscles were really good. During the time we began to eat and when we finished, the placed filled up and people were waiting for seating. This is a very small but popular place for the area and now I see why. It's good for smaller parties, like 2-4 people. Larger parties will have a hard time being seated because of the lack of space. The service is good and the staff is friendly. I'm going to go back, but only when they open because of the lines that form after they open.
(4)Sona Y.
I came here because it's so close to me and I wanted a new sushi place that was walking distance. I was sorely disappointed. The first issue was how dirty everything was from the cups and utensils to the seats and tables. Our tpa water tasted so awful. I also ask for regular water at restaurants but I had to buy Bottled here. The sushi was not fresh. I couldn't eat the rest of the day I felt awful. My daughter got a chicken teriyaki bowl the chicken was grey. The staff is nice and attentive but I will never be going back.
(1)Lorna N.
I don't know what to say. The green muscles weren't fresh... The texture didn't taste any good and the eel sauce was watered down and tasted really salty. I was so excited to eat but now my mood is pretty low because of how bad the food tasted. Nothing was fresh at all. Our scallop roll fell apart just trying to grab it... And the rice felt like it was a few days old because the rice was crispy... Last time I checked rice isn't suppose to be crispy.... I don't even know. The only decent roll was the crunchy roll. Food took about 25 minutes to come out as well. Things could be better. Eh... I walked out disappointed. Wasn't worth my money or the wait. Every time you pick up a sushi roll it breaks apart which sucked when you're trying to eat. Lol. 3 stars for the service. The food can definitely improve.
(3)Samantha A.
This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants Ive been going to for about 7 years now. Their fish is always fresh, I love their classic rolls and the lunch and dinner combination deals is a really good amount of food for the price. Another favorite is their Ahi poke bowl, even in their busiest of hours I have no complaint on service, sometimes the food takes a bit to come out but that is only expected. Good job Full Moon!
(5)Brooke H.
I honestly don't understand why this place has an average of 3.5 stars. If I could give it 10 stars I would! I have literally been a regular customer here for 14 years and nothing has changed, and if it has (slightly) it is definitely for the better, e.i. adding more rolls to their menu. Their quality is on point. I love every item they have to offer and their prices are extremely cheap for such great quality. I have never had bad service or left with a bad taste in my mouth (literally or figuratively). Highly recommended to anyone looking to enjoy some bomb sushi rolls. However, the location is very small so please don't show up here with a party larger than 6 because its chaotic for everyone's dining experience. This is more of a casual spot for 1-4 person parties.
(5)Johnna T.
I've been coming here for a couple years now and for the price and portions, still my favorite poke bowl. For vegetarians, I was confused as to why their vegetable oudon was in beef broth, I wish they would put menu descriptions. It's a small place that's always busy, so you might wait a bit for your food, but overall very convenient, tasty, and you really can't beat the prices for the portions that they give you.
(4)Theresa N.
This place is so rude, we didn't give a good tip and they chased us Down!!! Sorry broke college kids
(1)Vanessa F.
Here with the hubby during the day and the sushi is so fresh. Sitting at the bar gives us one on one with our sushi chef and the food gets to you within minutes of ordering it. We had the Hawaiian, Healthy Full Moon and a bunch of yellowtail hand rolls. The Nigori Cold Sake is the best tasting sake- a must try (pink bottle). Thanks!
(5)Nkay B.
I got the crunchy roll with beef plate combo like i did back in high school. The beef did not taste fresh like it was sitting there for a few hours chit chatting with its friends before being scooped onto my plate. Yucky old leftover taste in my mouth. The salad got boring real fast and im not hating on salads in general i like them. Lack of flavor.. The crunchy roll saved the meal it was standard. The service was really fast. I would recommend this place for college students on a budget that wants sushi and be filled up. Dont expect gourmet food. I would go to Hondaya for they have better quality(the side tofu is soo YUMMY).Full moon for more variety. Overall 3.5stars The price is the SAME so choose accordingly!
(3)Danielle J.
My husband and I came here at the last minute the other night. I had been here once before years ago and wasn't a fan but I was craving sushi, close by, and thought I'd give it another shot. We were seated immediately. It's a small place in terms of tables so larger parties waited a bit but not terribly long. The service was quick. You need to know what you want to order when they come by -- there's no messing around. We enjoyed all that we ordered but one roll, Tataki Special. It just wasn't my thing but that's my fault. The Cajun flair sometimes works so I like to try but it was too overwhelming for me. I loved the Jalapeno Yellowtail Roll. I could eat another right now as I type. We also got a few handrolls which were great. The prices were great. Our bill was only $30-ish. We will definitely be back again!
(4)Josh S.
I come here regularly. I can always count on good sushi and good service. And you can't beat the prices. I love the iced green tea and Volcano Roll. I also recommend there Stuffed Jalapeños.
(5)Georgina E.
I love eating here! Fantastic food at a great price. The staff is always nice and professional :)
(5)Alex C.
Great sushi! Volcano roll is bomb !! The Service was great just a bit slow Will be back soon :)
(4)Winifred L.
I liked the food here and it is a decent price. I normally get their lunch special for beef teriyaki and california rolls. The proportion size is good. You get a lot of food for about $7. Their udon, beef and chicken bowls are great as well.
(4)Kelly N.
Ordered To go pick up here. I got crunch rolls, salmon cheek, edamame beans, and a salad. The price was very good considering what we ordered. I recommend this place for someone who wants to get their money's worth for some pretty good sushi rolls
(4)Lynn T.
Full moon used to be my favorite sushi spot. Now.. I am not much of a sushi eater.. If you know me.. You would know the only reason why I'm eating sushi is because the person I'm eating with at the time wants it.. Well this time it just so happens to be my bfs birthday weekend!! So we're eating sushi! Lol Anyway! This place was my go to spot in HS because I would always get their full moon special with crunchy roll and chicken teriyaki. But now that I'm older and I've had my fair share of crunchy roll at other sushi joints (cause that's all I eat and some other cooked rolls..) this places crunchy roll has moved down the yummy ladder.. I would rate their crunch roll a 5 out 10 now.. It's just okay.. The chicken teriyaki was dry and the salad that came with it wasn't as tasty as before.. The price is good for the good you get though! My bf ordered the baked salmon roll, spider roll and a salmon skin handroll.. He loved the baked salmon roll! I tried one piece and it wasn't bad.. I was still able to taste the salmon fishy taste which didn't go so well for me.. Their spider roll however was really good!! It was nice a crunchy! I had a bite of his salmon skin roll.. And let's just say... I pass on that FOREVER at this location. Just taste so good to me.. Service is okay.. Not bad but not great. Would I come again? Maybe once in a full moon.
(3)Vy T.
Cheap, easy and yummy sushi!! I used to come here when I was in high school. The place is pretty small, but the waits never that bad. I always get their chicken teriyaki combo and crunchy roll. The combo comes with chicken and rice, a side salad, miso soup and a roll. Its a really good deal for around $10. I also recommend getting the volcano roll. It's topped with little scallops and baked!! It comes out warm and the rice is slightly crunchy, and drenched in a creamy sauce.
(4)B P.
Rating is based off of pricing. Ordered the Poke Bowl, Jalapeño Yellowtail Roll, Spicy Tuna Hand roll, and Baked scallops. The Poke bowl was good. The roll was bland but the hand roll was better. If you want quality sushi that melts in your mouth, then go somewhere else. If you want cheap decent sushi then this is the place. Also, the service is a bit slow for not being busy.
(4)Angele L.
Sushi is consistently good, and prices are extremely affordable! Anytime I can find a consistent sushi place, I'm good to go!
(5)Camille L.
Fairly fresh sashimi and standard teriyaki chicken. Lunch combo with miso soup, salad and rice = $8.50 which is a good deal on weekends. Good service for an Asian restaurant.
(4)Vivian N.
I should have known not to come back after they had my take out order confused! Came in for lunch today with my boyfriend and service seriously went down the drain and flushed into the sewage. I ordered the salmon sushi and a crunch roll and the bf ordered a baked scallop and philly roll. Food took AWHILE to come out which I don't understand why because they didn't even have a full house. We finished our rolls and waited about 10 more minutes for the baked scallop which didn't even come out for us. So my boyfriend decided to just cancel it. She seemed mad but hey that's your servers fault. Don't think I'll be coming back here anymore. I'd be caught dead if I did.
(2)Erville V.
I love their poke bowl! Big serving and their sauce has a nice kick to it. Their sushi is good nothing to brag about.
(4)Matt I.
Had sushi with the family yesterday it was crowded but it was so worth it. Everything tasted amazing and nothing we had was bad. Definitely would recommend this to everyone I know. This place is the best.
(5)jason t.
Bomb sushi!!! Great prices!!! Not the highest quality I have ever had but when you eat sushi three times a week this is the spot!!! I love the crunch roll dinner and halibut sushi!!! But nothing I have ordered hasn't been absolutely delicious!!!
(4)Alexa P.
Love it here. This is my favorite sushi place it's cheap and good quality and amount of food! Love meeting up with friends and sitting at the bar watching the chef make all our sushi!
(5)JoAnn D.
Surf's up dude! A casual Hawaiian like themed Sushi restaurant. About 8-10 spots at the bar. You can order anything except combination items at the bar. Definitely a time saver sitting here, since there are usually spots open. Besides the bar, there is limited seating for large groups (MAKE A RESERVATION) and quite a few tables for small groups. TID BITS: --MSG rating: 1/5 --KID FRIENDLY, but space is bit tight. --crowded during peak hours --reasonably priced MUST HAVES: POKE BOWL OR SALAD: This is by far their best dish and probably my favorite poke bowl. The tuna/salmon sashimi is fresh. Not super fresh like those very expensive sushi restaurants, but pretty darn decent for the price. PLUS, the sauce and the green onions on top seals the deal. YUM-O! VOLCANO ROLL: Their BEST cut roll! California roll inside topped w/ mayo and scallops...whole roll is POPPED into the oven and comes out warm and crisp. There is a hint of sriracha inside the roll; give it a great kick. *8 piece cut roll. Rolls are on the small side! PRETTY GOOD DISHES: -Soft shell crab appetizer -Pan fried gyoza appetizer -Crunchy roll, Spider Roll and Rainbow Roll -Teriyaki Salmon - great sauce on a nicely grilled salmon Other dishes: --Udon is decent, but very mediocre. Taste like udon from a bag! I still get it anyways cuz I love noodles. -Super California roll....eel pieces are very small SERVICE: Friendly staff. Greeted on the way and in and out. They always seem like they are in a hurry and i feel a bit rushed. For a a more spacious location, I recommend Full Moon on Baker St.
(4)Kelly H.
Tucked in a corner of Brookhurst and Ellis is this little sushi place. I' m a regular here and as usual, I'm always greeted by the chefs at the bar in their Japanese language which is pretty welcoming. Today, I ordered their combo meal of rice with teriyaki chicken and crunchy rolls, baked Salmon Sushi and spider sushi roll. This order comes with Miso soup. The miso soup was a little bit salty, chicken was tender, but the teriyaki sauce was way too sweet and the rice was too little. However, the baked salmon and spider rolls were really good. These rolls were flavorful so I didn't need to dip with soy sauce. Tastes better when you eat with ginger. Overall, this is a nice local sushi place to eat on a regular day. But I wouldn't recommend coming here for a date night. Very casual here, nothing fancy, but good enough sushi.
(4)Rick P.
Full Moon is an excellent average sushi bar with superb service and fun vibe. The fish freshness is great, but the quality of cuts are in line with the decent price charged. This location will not break your wallet, and will leave you pleasantly satisfied with your overall experience. The bar seating is extremely limited and more than likely you will wait a while unless you can tolerate ordering from the tables. Well worth the time and money!
(3)Jackie N.
I love this place so much! I tried the one in Tustin first before I came here. My favorite rolls are the volcano, full moon, and philly. It's so mouthwatering and delicious. The price is afforadable; service is a bit a slow but the quality is on point :)
(5)Randoll C.
Sushi! That's all my coworker needed to say as we were discussing where to go for lunch one day. Well, she could have said beer ... however, it was a work day. I could already picture what i wanted though I hadn't been to this location before - been to the Tustin location - and was salivating so much, that I opened the car door while the engine was still running and the car was still rolling. So, a lot of other Sushi lovers were there too but we were lucky enough to be seated right away. As busy as the it was for lunch hour, service as surprisingly decent. I really appreciated the hot tea refills as well as the consideration that the tea bag was losing its potency, so each refill, the water level was dropped to compensate for that. I don't know if I could have asked for another tea bag but I also like plain hot water too. And the food - Sashimi and Sushi! It wasn't right out of the ocean and killed fresh but fresh enough that I enjoyed every single bite. Tasty enough that after the first round, we both went opted to order a second round. I could have handled eating a third round but my coworker was stuffed. Plus, we had to get back to work. The one thing I didn't like about my lunch was that the Miso Soup wasn't hot. It was warm and a little on the sweet side. I could be wrong in describing it as sweet but if it helps a little more, it just didn't have that strong punch that Miso Soup tends to have. Either way - I was there for the raw fish, not the soup. and I enjoyed that well enough.
(4)Emerald N.
My favorite budget-friendly sushi fix! Been going here for years and I always come back because it's super close to where I live and it's a big bang for your buck! My regular is always the crunchy roll special with beef. A couple years ago, the beef used to be a lot more thicker, kind of like a steak. But they suddenly changed it to very thin slices, almost like brisket. But it's just as good. The crunchy roll is yummy. Always a favorite. Occasionally I'll get the volcano roll. However, make sure you have time to eat because this and the Baked Salmon Roll usually take a while because they have to bake it. The salmon skin salad, poke bowl, and hawaiian roll are also some of my favs. So if you're in the mood for cheap, good-quality sushi, go here!
(4)Jenna N.
Very fresh INCREDIBLY well priced and very nice staff. Small restaurant with a handful of waiters so just have some patience when you go in. They also do to go which is just as fresh as if you at it there. Definitely our go to sushi place in fountain valley.
(5)Kinsey B.
This is my favorite lunch spot for sushi. I always get the teriyaki chicken and the crunchy roll. The quality is consistently good, and the lunch combo comes with miso soup and salad.
(5)Jane K.
This place just gets worse each time. I don't know how I keep getting suckered into coming back. They skimped on the cream cheese in the Philly roll, and their tataki roll was nothing special -____- the tempura was tasteless. I could go on but you get the gist of it. Go elsewhere for sushi. And service is TERRRIBLY slow!! The worst.
(2)Linda N.
I use to come here a lot back in the day. they WERE great. I've recently started coming back and the service is lacking. There were 3-5 tables occupied. My waitress didn't know much about the menu and spoke minimal English. It took about 25 minutes for our order to come out. It was only frustrating because we were 1 of at most 5 tables. The Poke Bowl is still delicious though. It's just the service that sucks here.
(3)Corie J.
I usually like this place very much. I just called and was advised that the wait for an order for pick up would be 30 minutes. The wait is usually 20 anyway so I said ok and the lady said that the Costa Mesa location may be faster.... By the time it would take me to get over there I could just have picked it up from this place in fountain valley. I wanted to order anyway but I felt I got pushed away and hung up on....??? That's pretty rude.

Wow, a coincidence that I ate Full Moon for New Year's Eve, about 1 year since I wrote my first review of it. I am bumping it up to 4 stars as I had a much more enjoyable experience this time around. Not feeling like making a night out of the town, I decided to get some sushi for take out. The place was packed around 7:30pm and was warned it could take up to 30 minutes before I got the food. During the wait, I just walked to the nearby Ralph's and picked up some ice cream. I tried: - Jalapeno popper (not a roll): This was basically the contents of a California roll stuffed into a pepper with cream cheese. I liked it a lot- nice combo of cheesy and spicy. - Dynamite roll: This one came with generous heaps of scallops and tasted like Korean BBQ (that's not a bad thing in my book). - Spider roll: pretty standard - Philadelphia roll: also standard, wish I could taste more cream cheese- notice a trend here? lol - Albacore garlic roll: delicious, I'm starting to like this everywhere I go more and more - Salmon sushi and scallop hand roll: good - Toro: guess it's not my cup of tea... but my friend also agreed that it had a bad fishy taste to it here (and he normally likes it) All this rung up to about $50 and filled up two hungry bellies. The only thing I was bummed about was they didn't have any uni that day which is why we got the toro instead. In any case, I think they are fairly priced for all the food we got and I don't think I would mind coming here again.
(4)Tom S.
Just had the worst sushi ever today, eating at japanese restaurant. Rice was not cook properly, still hard inside and not seasoned well, so it ruined everything we ordered that come with it. California roll and spicy tuna roll in dinner combo set, the rice was hard and cold. Its likes supermarket sushi. We eat there many times in the past but this one by far was the worst. The reason I gave them 2 stars because I hope this's just one time thing and the tempura was still good but will not go back to eat any time soon. Service was ok but they never came and ask if we are ok or refill water. Hope they fix it.
(2)Julia G.
I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed! I call in a lot of to go orders with them as well and they have never messed up an order. I highly recommend the Poke Salad, Tataki Special Roll, & Baked Scallop. Some if my faves!!!
(5)Neal D.
We go here twice a month for lunch. Good prices for the sushi and not skimpy on the size. Service is inconsistent some times. When their busy service is smooth, however service gets spotty when they are slow. Love the Volcano Roll and baked scallops.
(4)Mav C.
I liked the sushi and it was all for a fairly great price. I remember the rainbow and crunchy rolls were solid. Also the spicy tuna roll was standard and tasty as well. Also is busy so runs through a lot of sushi
(4)Jacqueline T.
Came here the other day for a quick lunch after exploring one of the local universities with my cousin. We came here upon my cousin's recommendation after I told her I had a craving for some yummy sushi and poke. There was plenty of parking. It was a Monday afternoon and we were immediately seated. The restaurant was somewhat full and it was clean. The only gripe I have is that the tables are all situated so close together and all awkward like. But it's whatever... Between my cousin and I, we each ordered the poke bowl and the volcano roll to share. Our drink orders were taken almost as soon as we sat down. Such good prompt service. After we got our drinks, we also got some miso soup, which I'm thinking was complimentary with our order, seeing that we didn't order any. Our food seemed to arrive shortly after our soups and we dug in. Everything looked so yummy I forgot to take pictures. Lol. The poke bowl did have a lot of rice but between that and the sushi roll, it was more than enough food for me. That volcano roll though... That was so delicious. It kind of sucks because the pieces were different sizes and falling apart, but the taste itself was nothing to mess with. With 2 orders of poke bowls, a sushi roll, and some green tea, our order came to like $27 bucks. Pretty decent prices. We finished what we could and ended up taking some home. My cousin left her box inside the restaurant and one if the guys were nice enough to run out to the parking lot to give it to her. All in all, I will definitely be back the next time I'm craving sushi or poke.
(5)Marie M.
OMG!!!! Awesome find! Had very delicious dinner with my sister and my mom. We ordered the crunch roll, spider roll, super California roll, Fullmoon roll, miso soup, spicy tuna roll, and the spicy tuna hand roll. All that food plus two beers a great find for $59.00.
(4)Karen L.
This is the 3rd time we came. The 1st 2 times were ok, food is a little slow; however, this time it was just out right messed up. We ordered udon, gyoza and a combo meal. Udon and gyoza came farily quickly, 5 minutes later the sashimi, then I waited and waited and waited for the teriyaki chicken for at least 15 minutes! Asked the female server, all she said was "it is coming". Never bother to check the kitchen. So by the time the teriyaki came, my husband already finished his udon. And so what did the server did? Came and cleared my husband's bowl. Now my husband was just sitting watching me eat. The server came around twice to ask if we need anything while I was still eating. I felt them rushing me to finish. So why can't the kitchen and the sushi bar worked to get the food out at the same time???????
(2)Susan L.
If I am craving some fast inexpensive sushi, I come here and I order: * The Full Moon Roll, a flashfried roll that leaves the inside salmon & tuna slightly seared and comes with an amazingggg dipping sauce * The Crunchy Roll, the crunchy bits sprinkled on top are mixed with furakake, noms! * The Volcano Roll, topped with baby scallop/mayo mix and those thin wispy fish flakes...delicioso! only $23! Done, done, and done.
(4)Heidi H.
Great place for a lunch special. I am a fan of the healthy roll, no rice options.
(4)Grace B.
My boyfriend and I are regulars at Full Moon. It's the best place for a sushi fix on a budget. If you're a sushi snob, this is not the place for you. If you want a some good sushi for a great price, this is where you should go! We always sit at the bar and joke with the staff. It's very casual here, so don't feel weird coming here after the gym in your sweats (I've done it plenty!). They are always happy to answer any questions we have and have even given us special dipping sauces, etc to try with our food. We also always order the Hawaiian Roll and Fullmoon Roll. The Hawaiian Roll has tuna on top of it and it is delish! The Fullmoon Roll is also great and is for sure the best deal sushi wise. We always try and new different third roll, but those two are the staples that we get every time. The little touches like the hand wipe at the beginning of the meal, the ginger and wasabi on the big green leaf, and the friendliness of the staff are part of make this place so great aside from the food itself.
(5)Serina J.
Whenever I'm craving sushi, this is the spot that I rush to! As soon as you walk through the doors, almost all the waiters and sushi chefs welcome and greet you! This place does get pretty busy around lunch and dinner time so there is usually a wait; but as soon the guests from a table leaves, one of the employees will jump to clean the table to ensure that you are seated as quickly as possible. I would definitely recommend eating one of my most favorite rolls, The Crunch Roll. This magnificent creation sent from heaven itself is stuffed with avocado, cucumber, shrimp, and crab meat. They also sprinkle on some fried tempura on the roll to add a very nice crunch as well as smelt eggs and a drizzle of eel sauce. The prices here are very reasonable and the customer service is satisfying. It does get pretty loud in here when there is a rush so be prepared to talk in your outdoor voice. This location is also very convenient because you're located within a shopping center, so I usually go for a quick walk (more like wobble) through the stores to get a little cardio before I go home and slip into a food coma.
(4)Julie K.
I've been coming here for years. The sushi is great and the price is right but I do miss the personal touch it had when the owner Charlie was more involved. All in all, great place, definitely check it out. You won't be disappointed.

This place isn't anything too special. Its sort of a hole in the wall restaurant in a strip mall. I would prefer to go somewhere with a nicer atmosphere. I think I ordered the Spider Roll. The roll was good but it didn't blow me away. The good thing is, the prices are really reasonable. My friend ordered the salad which was a good sized portion. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but there is nothing inherently wrong with it. Tip: You can order the rolls "healthy" which means they come out wrapped in a rice paper instead of rice. This was a nice option.

I wish I could give 3 and half... Full Moon is a lot better than many sushi places that I've been to, but (for whatever reason) I still can't bring myself to give them a 4... It's a good place to go to when you're craving sushi but don't want to shell out the extra cash or drive too far. Service is alright. Nothing exceptional. I don't like cracked plates or chipped cups and they always make me feel so weird when I ask for a new one. I think I keep coming back, not just out of convenience, but because I absolutely love their Healthy Fullmoon Roll... it's so fresh and light! First time I tried it was my first experience with soy paper. I now pretty much always order my hand rolls wrapped in soy.

2 stars off because the wait is way too long. My intention of going here in the first place was to try their Baked Scallop. It was good! I would definitely come back here again because their rolls are good. Unfortunately, I would not come back if I'm on a starvation mode because their long wait is just a no.
(3)Alexia P.
Hands down...BEST PLACE! I come here at least once a week. Variety of selections, fresh and decent prices. Enough said :)

Surroundings/Atmosphere- This quaint sushi restaurant has a small sushi bar, a few booths, and black leather banquettes. There's plenty of bamboo going around for decor and there's a surfboard mounted on the wall above the sushi bar. There's a friendly atmosphere permeated by amusing chatter of the guests. Menu/Quality for Price- I always get the same three items here since I love them so much! 1.) Salmon Skin Salad I love love love this salad! It's the best salmon skin salad I've ever had. I've tried it at other places, but it simply doesn't compare. There's also pickled vegetables on top, and their dressing is perfect. At $5.50, the price can't be beat either. 2.) Crunchy Roll Their crunchy roll is so bomb! They actually have little bits of tempura all over the top of the roll, making a nice crunch. I've been to many sushi places, and this place is the only one that does that. It's $6.50 for a cut Crunchy Roll here. 3.) Eel and Cucumber Roll I always like eel and cucumber together, and at Full Moon they always drizzle extra sauce on top! Delish! Great price too- $5.50. Service- Despite everything I've read on Yelp, I haven't encountered bad service here ever. They always greet you in Japanese when you come in and always say goodbye in Japanese when you leave. The wait staff is pretty prompt and friendly. No complaints here for service. Words of Advice/Tips- Full Moon can get pretty crowded at nights and on the weekends, and since it's such a small restaurant, be prepared for a wait! I'd say about 20 to 30 minutes. I definitely prefer Full Moon when I need a quick sushi fix since it's nearby. Everything is reasonably priced for the quality and portions here. I have been a returning patron of Full Moon sushi four about four or five years now, I don't see myself stopping anytime soon!
(4)Michelle P.
Price is reasonable. Sushi: good Customer service: ok
(4)Melissa P.
If you never had sushi before, than maybe Full Moon is a good start. I used to eat Full Moon when I was in college because it was probably the most affordable to me at the time. As I grow, so does my palate and I don't really fancy on getting sushi here anymore. But for lunch, the Full Moon Specials are great because its affordable for a plate of teriyaki and a sushi roll. They changed their beef teriyaki meat to something that is now much much thinner. Almost like flap meat.. since then I haven't been eating there much. Still a good place for a cheap lunch.
(3)Janeen D.
Can't go wrong here. Everything is delish and the price is right! My regular order: El Jalapeño, Halibut sushi with sea salt & lemon, Yellowtail Belly seared with jalapeño and poke sauce, Pony roll. Just yum!
(5)Mike M.
This place is going down hill. The service was very inefficient. We were seated...more like they pointed to a table in the corner. We had to ask three times for a table setting. I ordered green tea and, for the first time ever at a sushi restaurant, was given a cup of hot water and a tea bag. Pretty unusual in my book. The sushi quality has also suffered. The yellowtail was stringy..not a good cut. The chicken udon was marginal, too. The spicy tuna roll and cruchy roll were just okay. Irrasae is a bit more expensive but has much better quality. Maybe caught them on a bad night???
(3)L S.
I've been coming here for years. Love their service and sushi. Yes it isn't the most swanky place in town but the casual and friendly atmosphere along with the tasty sushi make it one of my faves. If you like the basic sushi and delicious rolls, this is the place to go. Not to mention that the prices are very affordable for what you get!
(4)Bryan V.
Full moon is an ok place to get "Japanese food" I use quotations because it seems to be catered to mainly americans, and doesn't seem to be real authentic Japanese food. However the place is pretty cheap and as a college student the poke bowl is a decent price for what is in it. For 9.50 you get a big bowl for rice, salmon, tuna, and poke sauce. It is big enough to fill you up, and you get a decent amount of fish in it as well, so it's a win win. If you are looking for some decently priced American catered/cheap Japanese food than this is your place.
(3)Ash Z.
The hubby and I went to have dinner here in our search for a good sushi place near home- we split the crunchy roll, philly roll, and the beef teriyaki bowl. Everything was very tasty and the staff is wonderful. Dinner for under 30 bucks and full happy tummies? Yes.
(4)Jennifer W.
I usually come here for their lunch specials or udon noodles. Chicken & Beef Teriyaki are good, the lunch specials always come with salad, miso soup and rice too! Their udon is always piping hot, perfect for cold days! Convenient if you need to get something to go, dine in is usually busy during lunch though.
(3)Jennifer M.
We love this place. Inexpensive, they know us by name, the kids and I share the specials. Healthy full moon roll is low calorie, and they have pretty decent cold sake too. Less rice= I get to have more sake. :)
(4)Alex H.
I really wanted sushi so I took my four year old sister with me to dinner. They were great. The staff was nice and helpful and they were great with my sister. Half way through eating her soup my sister spilled it all over the floor. The staff calmly helped me clean it up and they brought her another soup within minute. It was perfect.
(5)Ally E.
Came here with my bf who absolutely loves sushi. He loves the full moon roll, salmon sushi, and yellowtail sushi. This place is great and the prices are even better!
(5)Kim N.
Do order poke salad and full moon roll. Small place, would not be good for large parties. Good quality and quick service.
(4)Grace C.
Honestly the worst sushi place i've been to. I went during lunch time one day and it was super busy, but the lady who was taking our order was being super rude to my mom and I because I didn't know the difference between a cut roll and a hand roll??? I'M SORRY I DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BUT IT'S YOUR JOB TO HELP YOUR CUSTOMERS OUT! And they kept making me feel like I was in the way of everything, since it was really busy. I understand that employees are people too and probably have bad days as well, but you shouldn't be treating your customers like shit! We're paying to eat here and for your service; I expect a decent meal and quality from your employees. I'm never coming here again because the sushi was awful too and it tasted worse than sushi from 7/11 (i'm assuming idk i haven't had sushi from 7/11 bc a lil scared but it honestly sucked so much and I was so sad bc I love sushi). It took around 30-40 minutes just for our takeout order which is a ridiculous because we only got California Rolls and Spicy Tuna rolls. TERRIBLE SUSHI. TERRIBLE SERVICE. MY ADVICE? GO TO KABUKI DURING THEIR HAPPY OUR BECAUSE THEIR SUSHI IS ACTUALLY GOOD AND THEY DON'T TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE SHIT
(1)Amy T.
Low price for low quality. The sushi dishes were very affordable but let me warn you- the portions directly correlates to the price; low price, small portions. I've been here twice, just to justify whether or not my first trip was just on a bad day and on both trips, the sushi dishes were mushy.. And another huge disappointment- the WATER, I dont usually mind regular filtered tap water at restaurants, but my water had a stink to it! It had an after taste of sewer... SO GROSS! I've never tasted such water before! They did add lemon to my water but that didn't help shit.. The service was alright and overall, its hard not to walk out of that place wondering if you're gonna have poisoning afterwards because it wasn't exactly clean. The server brought out a stack of dishes to my table and the plate had crumbs of tempura on it; although, without having to ask, he took the initiative and replaced that plate. Food was just OK.. Not great enough to come back considering the cleanliness of the restaurant. ** be careful of the lints on the wooden chopsticks given, that was also a huge concern for me..
(1)Kelsey C.
I personally am not big on fish in general, but I love the poke here! I've tried a few other things and everything has been great. Their rolls (the ones I've had) are great, and quite a few of my friends have been going here for a long time. I've gotten takeout and dined in, multiple times, and so far the service has been great. Even the day I had to wait a little longer, they were very nice and apologized for the wait.
(5)Michael G.
The rolls were the most pathetic pieces of sushi I have ever had. Since all the rolls are pretty much California roll based they should learn how to make them. There were some pieces that had absolutely no avocado. All the rolls were tiny in comparison to any other sushi place I've been too. I guess it's true you get what you pay for. Tip- raise your prices and actually serve quality sushi. I would rather pay a couple dollars more a roll and be satisfied with my meal.
(1)Rachel A.
This is one of my favorite sushi places. I have never had a bad meal here! I usually end up getting the crunch roll and teriyaki chicken special, either lunch or dinner. The teriyaki chicken is nothing special, but it's tasty. What I really love is their miso soup and crunch roll. I only knocked off a star because their service is always very inconsistent. I guess it's more of a 'quick service' place set up like a restaurant, but sometimes when you see people come in after you, and they get their food before you (same kind of stuff you ordered), it gets a bit frustrating. It seems to happen a lot to us.. buuuutttt we keep coming back. The food is worth it.
(4)Cristian A.
Full moon sushi ,stop coming here because there food was depreciated it wasn't the same ; today we decided to give it another try . We order the poke bowl it was good but the spicy tuna rolls had a fishy taste a strong one we ask our waiter about the tuna roll been fresh ,she was getting upset and told us the fish is cut and prep every day never ask us how accommodate our meal and didn't answer our question about the fish been fresh. Plus also forgot to get us our ginger .
(2)Amy N.
Came here for lunch today and left displeased "/ Walking in, I was greeted by the sushi chefs from the bar (at the back of the restaurant), sat myself and waited for the server to come. She gave me a few minutes to order after I asked for a water due to it being my first time there. I decided on the crunchy roll and chicken teriyaki lunch special as well as a caterpillar roll to-go. After she took my order and dropped off my food, she never came back to check how I was doing until she saw me putting my empty dishes together and that was when I asked for the check. **Miso Soup & Salad The miso soup was meh, it wasn't anything spectacular. I found 2 little pieces of tofu in it, no seaweed though. The salad was not pretty to look at, the dressing just tasted like lemon was squirted on it but I did find one slice of cucumber and one slice of carrot in the mix. **Chicken Teriyaki & Rice Rice is rice, can't go wrong there but the chicken was horrible. It was very bland, didn't taste like it was salted or peppered. The teriyaki sauce itself, was goopy ... it was displeasing to the eye and did not have a good taste to it. **Crunchy Roll Out of everything I ate here, the crunchy roll was the best. This does not mean it was good. The rolls were all squished together and the shrimp tempura that was inside of it was barely there. **Caterpillar Roll I ate this at work a few hours later and again, unhappy. The rolls weren't cut through properly, so when I tried to pick up a piece, it dragged along another piece and fell apart. I do not believe I will be coming back here to eat again. Lunch there cost me $20 dollars but I was not full nor happy with my food. It was a sad lunch ... xoxo Amy Nguyen

I used to not like sushi... Until I had full moon's crunch roll. This is my spot to get my sushi fix! Their lunch/dinner special is a great deal for around $10. I get the crunch roll special with teriyaki beef. They changed their beef-- it used to be dry and chewy as heck but now it's some thinly sliced beef which is much better! Their teriyaki chicken is good too! Most of their rolls are "California rolls" on the inside with something different on the outside. I highly recommend coming here if you're craving decent sushi but can't afford the high end stuff. Other favorites: -volcano roll (in:ca roll out: scallops, aioli sauce, onions?) This is a must order for me! -calamari -cucumber roll Enjoy!
(4)Nicole Z.
One of my favorite sushi places in the OC. The food is fresh while keeping the costs low. The only place I can find that has a cajun seasoned tanaka s/p? Yummy cold unfiltered sake as well.
(4)Elisabeth H.
Had a great lunch here the other day. Really fresh sushi. I especially enjoyed the salmon. The lunch specials are priced right. I recommend it.

After eating turkey for two days, my family and I wanted some Japanese food. My family and I were in the area and spotted Full Moon which is located in the Ralphs shopping center on Brookhurst. We were warmly greeted and sat at one of the tables. We looked at the menu and I thought...."Wow, the combination lunches are so cheap." Our lunch consisted of: (1) Miso Soup - Complimentary The soup is included with the combination meals. The soup was not piping hot but was still tasty. 3 Stars (2) Fried Calamari - $3.50 A small portion of fried calamari with a soy sauce based dipping sauce was served. The calamari was too chewy and I wouldn't order it again. 2 Stars (3) 2 Baked Green Mussels In Ponzu Sauce - $3.50 Fresh and delish! I could have eaten a dozen of those things. 4 Stars (4) Pan Fried Pork Gyozas (Dumplings) - $3.50 We were served 5 gyozas with a dipping sauce. My son really liked the gyozas....the 1/2 gyoza I ate was purty good. 3 Stars (5) Teriyaki Salmon & Tempura Lunch Combination - $6.95 * Salad - Plain lettuce with a light soy sauce/vinegar dressing. 2 Stars * Rice - Fresh * Mixed Tempura (2 Shrimps, 1 Onion, 1 Potato, 1 Carrot, and 1 Broccoli) - The tempura was kinda bland and needed seasoning. The panko batter wasn't fully fried; ; therefore, the tempura was a lil on the soggy side. Just "ok" to me. 3 Stars * Teriyaki Salmon - I received a good sized piece of salmon with a delish teriyaki sauce. 3 Stars. * - Bowl of steamed Rice - Fresh (6) Teriyaki Chicken & Tempura Lunch Combination - $5.95 Sonny boy enjoyed his lunch combo. I tasted his chicken teriyaki which had no grill marks and thought it was just "eh". (7) CA Roll & Chicken Teriyaki Full Moon Special - $5.50 Hubby said his lunch was just ok. He liked his CA roll but didn't like the salad and he said his chicken was served luke warm. (8) 3 Diet Coke Cans - $1.00 Each We arrived at the restaurant at noon and within 15 minutes the small restaurant was full. I like that the restaurant offers combination specials during the weekends which is nonexistent in Huntington Beach. Full Moon provides friendly service and cheap lunch specials which are "ok". 3 Stars
(3)Cristina M.
Great portions and great prices! You can taste how fresh the fish is and the service it perfect. If you are looking for a new place to try THIS IS IT!!
(5)Sean T.
Sushi quality is not up to par today for lunch. Not as fresh as it should be. Usually this place is a decent 3 stars.
(2)Sheila C.
We go here a lot - it's close to our house, the prices are really good, and the sushi is fresh and tasty. The last time we were there I had what had to be one of the best salmon sashimi experiences I've ever had. There's no atmosphere and the service is fine but not great. But the sushi is worth it!
(4)Kelli G.
This is my second favorite Full Moon out of the three locations. Same great prices. But the service here could be better. That is why they lose a star. My favorites here are the poke bowl, el jalapeno, baked scallop and any of the belly sushis they have (yellowtail, albacore, salmon). The combination meals are a great deal as well.
(4)Stephanie Z.
Not sure why this place has 3 1/2 stars. The service was nonexistent. The chicken flat dry, drenched in sauce. The tuna roll had brown avocado and tasted a lil fishy. Had to ask my server for everything from utensils, a bowl for the soy sauce, and even a spoon for my soup. The place could also use a refresh and a deep cleaning. Won't be back.

I used to come here all the time. I've lived in fountain valley off and on for the last 20 years and this used to be one of my favorite places to meet a friend for lunch or dinner, especially at the bar with the sushi chefs. However, after the owner and his wife stopped working here and they opened up other locations, the quality and taste of the food has unfortunately gone down tremendously. They used to have the best sushi chefs working here and they were all japanese and very experienced. They would also converse with you and make the experience fun. However, when you walk into a sushi place and the sushi chef is young and Hispanic, that is the first warning sign. Sushi making is an art form and one that is learned over many many years and is taken very seriously. You cannot just expect anyone to be able to make it. Their crunchy rolls used to be the best anywhere hands down, but that was long ago. It is still very popular with the local caucasian population, but that is because they really don't know what good sushi is. It's unfortunate that because of greed and wanting to make more money, the owners have allowed the quality of their food, service and restaurant to suffer. I always hate to see that happen :( They really need to consider hiring real sushi chefs even though it may cost more, and more experienced staff.
(2)Dinh T.
I walk here for lunch and dinner all the time. The wait could be long during rush hours.
(4)Shirley S.
I've been coming to Full Moon for about 6 years now. I always get good service every time I visit this location. For the price of the sushi..you shouldn't be expecting amazing rolls. You get what you pay for. I come here if I want a quick sushi fix because it's around the corner from my house. There are much better sushi places to choose from but none for a cheap price. But overall, I am pleased with their sushi; spicy tuna with salmon sashimi on top and rainbow roll with spicy salmon inside (only $1.50 extra for fish instead of imitation crab). It is extremely disappointing that they still DON'T offer a brown rice option as opposed to white rice.
(3)Lola L.
i really really like this place. the baked salmon roll is out of this world! the prices are reasonable. the salad they serve with the dinners is not good but it comes along so what the heck? sushi is fresh and yummy!
(5)ANNITA C.
We went in for lunch and had a spicy tuna roll and it had a hair. They remade the roll, but were not friendly about he incident. They didn't even offer to comp the roll. It was very gross and will not be going back. They don't clean the tables just simply wipe them down. Next time you go in look at the walls they have splatter and gunk all over. Yucky Yucky Yucky. Staff doesn't look any better thank the walls.
(1)Cory J.
This place is fine, but if you're spending the kind of cash sushi requires, is "fine" OK? Most of the rolls are California Rolls with something placed on top. Their rolls are also a bit loose, meaning they can fall apart in your chopsticks. I don't understand why this place always has a wait. I'll go to Kappo Honda or Honda Ya from now on.
(2)Mallory H.
I'm a vegetarian, so I can't comment on the actual fish. However, everyone I got with says it's good. They are the most affordable sushi restaurant I've ever been to. Service is good and the lunch special is a really good deal. I enjoy the vegetable udon, vegetable rolls, cucumber rolls and tofu salad. I've been told the miso soup has a fish base, so don't order that if you're vegetarian/vegan. If you're thinking of going for dinner, especially on a weekend, there is a good chance you'll have to wait for a table. It gets busy as a lot of locals are regulars at this place. Service is good. Everything is clean. I'd definitely recommend it if your'e looking for a new favorite sushi restaurant.
(4)Lizzie C.
Came here after working out at the gym in the same plaza. Had the lunch special and it's not bad. Mediocre. Had the full moon spicy tuna combo. Came with chicken, rice, salad, miso soup, and the spicy tuna roll. Was very full after cause i'm a piggy and ate everything. :)
(3)Kathy T.
Came here for lunch and got the teriyaki chicken and beef combination since I don't eat sushi, but will entertain my dad and sister since they do. The combo came with soup and salad and is very filling. The teriyaki sauce was not very good though. I found it to be too thick and lacked flavor. The chicken was ok, but I thought the beef was terrible. It was thin slices of beef that had lots of chunks of fat. My sister had the salmon skin hand roll that I took a bite of and thought that the salmon skin was fishy and not crunchy enough. I think the value is there for a decent lunch, but nothing really stands out for me as being tasty. It's super packed for lunch so I know the word is out that this place is relatively cheap for sushi/lunch. Don't know if I would voluntarily come back.
(2)Christine P.
HORRIBLE service! Its not an authentic sushi joint by any means, just the regular rolls, sushi, and what not. Don't get me wrong, the fish here is fresh and of good quality, but it's the service that will keep me from coming back. My husband, little brother and I came here for dinner when to our surprise, it wasn't crowded at all. Once seated, our server was very nice, but it took FOREVER and a day for us to receive our drinks and food. Like many other posters before, I swear it seems as though they forgot about our orders. It got to the point where I was so pissed (and I usually never get mad) that we were about ready to leave. After all was said and done and after waiting forever for our food, we left without tipping and that's something that I NEVER do, no matter how bad the service was. This place was just too much. Bottom line: horrrriibbbllleee service. Lots of other sushi options around town.
(1)Kevin W.
This little casual Hawaiian surf shack may be a hole in the wall, but the ridiculously fresh and delicious sushi dishes blow everyone else's fish out of the water. When you arrive and are confronted with a line out the door, you get your proof that this place is going to rock. The staff here are probably the kindest and most attentive little waiters that will stop what they're doing to welcome you like family into the restaurant, wiping down a table before you can even notice the spot was dirty. This place has the absolute BEST POKE EVER. Hands down, no fingers crossed. I don't know what they do to the ahi, but it is incredibly fresh and delicate. Everything here is quite reasonably priced, so don't worry about binging on their delicious dishes.
(5)Stephi S.
Popular spot with the locals! Friendly atmosphere and yummy food. The prices are reasonable. They offer a sushi bar as well as tables to sit and enjoy. The menu is typical for a sushi restaraunt. Great place for a quick Sushi fix.
(4)Dominique T.
This used to be one of the sushi spot I went to for a quick dinner. However, I took the staff here for lunch today at about 2pm. It was not busy but we had terrible service. We asked for the booth and the waiter looked at us for a few moments before agreeing. Then it took forever to get the menus. A couple came in, got seated and their orders were taken before us! We had to force eye contact for someone to take our order. However, the saving grace was that I was able to ask for no tuna and white fish and just give me salmon and albacore sashimi instead. The chicken teriyaki came out ok - nothing special. The sashimi was good but no ponzu sauce for the albacore. After our orders were taken, the meal was very enjoyable with good company. The waitress offered to refill my iced green tea. So, that made up for the lack of service at the beginning. I'll still come back because I like their baked scallops which I did not ordered this time.
(3)Ariana L.
I've gone to this place a decent amount of times. I love to go here because it is a great deal with good quality if you're feeling sushi. The rolls are for the most part variations of the california roll, but I really don't see that as a major negative. They do have raw sushi 2 piece plates and certain rolls have raw fish on top in case you are bitter about california rolls. -Udon -Edamame (best deal i've seen for edamame!) -Teriyaki chicken/Vegetable tempura (comes with shrimp pieces too!) with California/crunchy/spicy tuna roll lunch/dinner special (comes with miso soup, salad and rice) -volcano roll: baked scallops on top of a california roll -hawaii roll: raw tuna on top of a california roll -crunchy roll -california roll -spicy tuna roll I am picky with my meat and don't like how much sauce they put on the meat so I prefer the vegetable tempura. The udon is a bit boring but I love everything else! The last couple of times I went the service wasn't so well. They barely came to our table and I felt rushed to order my food and to leave but it doesn't stop me from wanting to go again. haha Try it if you're in the area and feeling sushi! :)
(4)Danny M.
Good place for quick sushi craving. I tried the baked scallop and it was really good. The spider roll was okay. I will try them again and try other menu items.
(3)Lily T.
(CRAZY) POKE BOWL for the win! If you ask for it "crazy" then they put sriacha hot sauce in it for you. I love eating this with extra ponzu and extra poke sauce. I always ask for it on the side. Try adding avocado and extra imitation crab meat in it as well! They make the best poke bowl in town, even though their sushi grade/quality really deserves a 2 star rating. Main street Huntington Beach has nothing on this place.
(3)Lauren Y.
I came here with friends visiting from Asia for an early dinner around 4:30 pm. We split a sashimi special that came with salad, miso soup, and 8 or 9 various slices of sashimi. I ordered the yellowtail roll, which they made non spicy for me. The miso soup was served hot, which most restaurants usually don't bother with. I didn't try the salad or sashimi, but no one raved about it or wanted to order anything else which we were planning on doing. Yellowtail roll? Not good. The rice was cold, hard and dry, the fish portion was not fresh and minimal. We has green tea which was refilled so often and the service was so great I would maybe come here again and order noodles. Try it if you're in the neighborhood, but I would never make a special trip here.
(3)Elizabeth S.
Fresh, great pricing, great environment, awesome ginger, and the water keeps flowing! The crunch roll was great, Everyone was super nice and checked on us regularly, and they got my orders correct. All of this combined and it makes it a great sushi place, I would definately come again :) 4 stars because 2/3 of the rolls I ordered I probably wouldnt order again just because those flavors werent what I was used to for those types of rolls.. but they were still super fresh and good in their own way!
(4)Thien T.
I've got to say the sushi here is pretty good. The rice dishes however are kind of plain. The reason I give this place a two star is because of their service. They lag on our order, give us attitude, and made it a very unpleasant experience for us. We ended up not leaving tip because we didn't feel they deserved any and the waitress who served us ran out and asked us where her tip is. Ever since I have tried to avoid this place. I still come here every now and then because it's the closest place for sushi but the service is still overall a 2-3 star.
(2)Elissa S.
I usually come here for lunch because the lunch special is pretty cheap and worth it. You get miso soup, rice, salad, your choice of meat and your choice of sushi roll (crunchy or spicy tuna). The quality isn't the best sushi u can ever get but it is definitely good and at a great price. Servers are very friendly and accommodating.
(4)Alex R.
Not a big sushi guy but I Love the sushi here. Great service always friendly. Good prices. Gotta try it
(5)Justin D.
Full Moon consistently delivers fresh and tasty Japanese style food. The Costa Mesa store is less busy than the FV store and the Tustin store is even less busy than that. I say this because the FV store can get crazy during peak times. The cool thing about Full Moon to me is this is the first place I ever had a cut roll and I walked away very happy. The food is very palatable and the menu is designed to be simple and unassuming for people first trying Japanese cuisine. I am sure sushi snobs would not recommend Full Moon.It dosen't offer supreme authenticity or have an extremely radical repertoire of popularly unknown sea creature's body parts, but to those among us, you know where to get what you need. This is a very "safe" place to take your meat and potato eating family. Put the white bread down, save the turkey sandwich with mayo for tomorrow and go try Full Moon! * One note: recently they stopped serving fresh brewed green tea. Now you are given a cup of hot water with a tea bag. Big bummer! I hope they consider having fresh brewed tea again as I see no value in paying a marked up price for a tea bag!
(4)Sam H.
This is a little hole in the wall sushi place in a busy shopping center. A friend of mine took me here, other wise I would have never found this little gem. The sushi here is excellent. Everything thing from the very simple to exotic dishes was very tasty. There price are very inexpensive which made it even better. You realy can't beat their prices. The only thing that left a abd taste in my mouth was the logo for the restuaraunt. Not sure why they use the illuminati symbol of the "all seeing eye" and pyramid.

2 Stars Service is still horrible Sushi is uninspired but cheap I only go here cause it's so close and I must be desperate for sushi. If you must go... Get the volcano roll (baked baby scallops on cali roll with shavings on top)

[ This Review is ONLY for their POKE BOWL] Haven't been to Full Moon in ages, but an old friend of mine wanted to come here for dinner. The reason why I don't ever come here, since I don't like their sushi and I feel that it was not authentic at all. During my last visit, I tried their Poke Bowl, and I must say that it was actually not bad. Can't believe I never tried it til now, if I ever crave a poke bowl, I would just swing by Full Moon since it is so close to my house. The portion size would leave a boy satisfied and a girl..super full. The overall experience with this dish was good. Highly recommend you to check the the Poke Bowl! Go during LUNCH for a better deal!! **As for the sushi... I'll leave you to be the judge of that... (I'm not a fan whatsoever)

To start, I am a sushi enthusiast and have tried well over 25+ sushi restaurants in and around the Southern California (and even some NorCal restaurants too). I love sushi but especially fresh sashimi! Out of all the restaurants I've tried, I've got to say Full Moon is my favorite!!! Why you ask? There must be better quality? Well I believe that Full Moon serves consistent, fresh, and quality sushi at a great price point (emphasis on the $$). The wait staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. There is ample parking and usually the wait is never terrible. My go-to dishes are: 1. Salmon, Albacore, Unagi, Tuna Nigiri 2. Poke Bowl (huge portions) 3. Crunch Roll 4. Baked Scallop ($3.50) They also have great affordable lunch specials (soup, salad, main dish, +sushi roll for under 10 bucks!) and I'd recommend ANY of the Chef's daily specials! If you want cheap affordable, and consistently awesome food then this is the place to go! I like the vibe here but def. check out the Costa Mesa location too!

This place is one of my favorite lunch spots. I have brought many friends and co-workers here and I keep coming back for their great lunch specials and sushi. My favorite roll there is the Volcano roll. I love baked rolls and this one never disappoints. This roll starts off with a california roll topped with baked scallops in a special mayo sauce and siracha on top. Don't quote me on the contents of the roll because I might have left something out, but you just need to try it to be a believer. And the price of the rolls are all very cheap so that is a plus. The lunch ($6-8) and dinner ($ specials are great and include either beef or chicken with rice, salad, miso soup, and a crunchy shrimp roll, california roll, or spicy tuna roll (the crunchy shrimp is great.) If you're in the area, stop by and have a great affordable meal!

I went to Full Moon on a particularly busy day. Maybe that's why we had to wait over thirty minutes for a table. Maybe that's why another group of people who came AFTER we did were seated first. Maybe that's why I had such a terrible experience with their customer service. The waiter apologized and kicked the other table out of their seat so we could sit there...which was pretty weird, but whatever. The food is nothing special - newcomers to sushi will probably love it, though. This place is good for to-go, or a quick bite to eat. Don't expect anything great.
(2)Amanda S.
So there are only three types of people that come to Full Moon: 1. Those who are on a budget which is absolutely fine because it's very affordable. 2. Those who don't know quality sushi/sashimi if their life depended on it. 3. Those who do know better, but Full Moon is nostalgic for them. I'm guilty of this. I used to come here all the time when I was in high school (FVHS, holla!) because I didn't know any better and because it's pretty cheap. However after eating here for lunch recently I don't think I'll be back for a very very very long time due to the lack of cleanliness. I saw a spider crawl across the sushi bar as well as fruit flies all over the place. Disgusting. It's not a sight you want to see while you're trying to have lunch. I hope this place improves soon as far as cleanliness!!! Their food is pretty okay for the price you're paying. Don't come here if you're expecting mind blowing dishes when it comes to sashimi or special rolls. Everything is just mediocre!
(2)Audrian N.
Food is mediocre. Service is nothing to brag about. Basically you get what you pay for and that's about it. If you guys wanna try another sushi place, come here.
(3)Hannah E.
This is the kind of sushi I'm not mad at, but not thrilled with either. Cheap enough to kind of justify putting surimi (krab) in everything, but still, it puts surimi in everything so I'm not going back. Its spicy tuna rolled with seared tuna tasted like Italian food. Its albacore garlic roll woulda been great sans surimi. And the uni was chloriney, but otherwise satisfactory. I'm sick of being one of the sole crusaders against the ever-present unavoidable surimi, but I recognize that one surimi-hater alone cannot change the course of southern California's fusion sushi landscape.
(3)Sherrie S.
My go to sushi spot! Hands down affordable, fast, and yummy!! Might I recommend the Garlic roll, el jalapeno, and the salad...... But everything else is really good too.
(5)Diane Q.
When we got here the place was a bit busy but we were seated fairly quickly. We ordered healthy full moon, albacore garlic roll, Baked scallop, and poke salad. The baked scallop was the best but the size is small forthe price. Healthy full moon roll was good but a bit salty. The albacore garlic roll was tasteless and wasn't worth it and the poke salad was salty and it didn't taste fresh. Overall dinner was below average but I might give it another try.
(2)Mish S.
Yamma say ohhh, is how your greeted but probably not how its spelled! LOL This sushi bar is a tuna's worst nightmare, cause if they go anywhere this place they will chop it up and turn it into spicy tuna handrolls. Thats just how fresh there sushi is. The spider roll is my #1 go to, stuffed with avocado, softshell crab and who knows whatever else cause its gone too quick to look in it. Also the volcano roll is yummy with fresh scallops, crab, avocado and mayo and placed under a burner for a couple of seconds. And last but not least is the never fail go to is the crunch roll, no one can ever say no. Go check'em out the line may be out the door but its well worth the wait.
(5)Courtney L.
I love this place. Usually I'm not a big fan of sushi, but this place has good sushi. It is really fresh. That is why i have to stip by this place at least 2 times per month. I love the baked scallop. I have not try all of the rolls there but crunchy rolls , spider rolls are good too

We wanted to try a local sushi restaurant. I went on Yelp and found Full Moon. The reviews were OK so we decided to try it since it's in our neighborhood. When we arrived the place was full which was understandable since it was Saturday night and we signed the waiting list. We were told there was a 15 to 20 minute wait, so we went outside the door since they don't have a waiting area (it's a small restaurant). Not two minutes passed and another two parties of three showed up and signed in. They were immediately seated. We asked the hostess why since we signed in first she told us "Whatever" and rolled her eyes. We waited a total of 25 minutes and the hostess continued to seat other parties and pretended that we did not exist. I am normally patient when we go out to eat on weekends, since it's always a busy night for restaurants, but this was just a rude hostess and we had enough. We will not be going back to be treated like that, instead we will drive the 8 miles to our normally hole in the wall sushi restaurant. If you decide to try this place, I wish you better luck in getting seated and having a hostess with a better attitude.
(1)Dan H.
Yeah yeah yeah, I know going in that this is not a traditional Japanese resto. Yeah yeah yeah, I know its for young non-Asians. But no uni? Ever? At a sushi bar? Epic fail.
(1)M Y.
Plenty of other choices nearby for better Japanese food. Walked in to horrible fishy smell. Fresh decent sushi places should not smell. Then my children's chicken udon bowl tasted "weird" they said. I took a bite of their chicken before we left and my stomach has been churning ever since. Something was not right. The chicken smelled like bad fish and had a strange aftertaste. I hope no one has a stomach ache tonight. I'm very worried. This place did not smell or feel clean.
(2)Michelle J.
I love this place! I've been coming here for the past 4 yrs. and it never disappoints! Absolutely love the crunchy roll, my husband and I always get that along with the full moon special .
(5)Lynnzy S.
Visited this restaurant after lunch hours and it was still packed ! To my surprise there was a wait list. I waited for 35 minutes. The food was delicious. I loved the baked scallop. Perfectly baked & served with rice. I also had the poke salad. The sashimi was great but the salad was just a plain iceberg salad. For the price i sure wouldve enjoyed a mixture of romaine, spinach and arugula. Maybe i am used to the mixture from other sushi restaurants , so my expectations are high. There was only one server and one bus boy. If your expecting to have five star service? This isn't the place for you, I would rate it 3 stars for service . For the food? 4 stars. The price is average
(4)Edgar M.
Omg... This words say it all: best sushi in socal.
(5)dave g.
Tried Full Moon for a second time. And it was just as good as the first time. Had the poke bowl and it was awesome. Abundance of poke and nice size chunks. Also had the Cucumber special roll for the second time and it also did not disappoint. This place is now added to our list. Prices are reasonable. $10.50 for the poke bowl and I was full.
(4)Sonya R.
I love Full Moon. My husband discovered it back in 2011 and turned me on to it shortly there after. The fish is so fresh and high quality for the price. We always get the healthy full moon roll, albacore garlic roll, sea weed salad, spicy tuna roll and a few others from their special roll list. Combine with a hot saki its a perfect week night meal. We usually try to sit at the sushi bar for faster service and the cozy seating ;) Its usually packed so sometimes you have to wait. The restaurant is small, so some might find it too tight for intimate convos, but its perfect for a week night meal. I wish I still lived close so I could make it in every week!
(5)Sean M.
Great sushi at a very good price. Love the jalapeño yellowtail roll with poke sauce for dipping!
(4)Jimmy N.
I can't believe I've never Yelped Full Moon! I love this place. my friend and i go here practically once a month or so! The prices are fair, the quality of sushi is fair in keeping with the prices.. portions are fair.. they really are the fairest of them all. :D I always get the same thing everytime, cuz I can't go wrong with what I order! One of each: Volcano Roll, Rainbow Roll, Super California w/smelt roe on top, and a Philadelphia Roll.. and if I'm super hungry, I'll also get the Spicy Tuna combination with teriyaki chicken & rice.. the latter can always be boxed up to-go as well. I also love getting Full Moon when I'm on the go or eating alone too. oh and response to Miss Josephine Z in re: miso soup with spoon - you don't get a freaking spoon with it.. be cultured and have your soup the way the Japanese do - san spoon!
(5)Nicole V.
Good food okay service, sucks that they raised there prices recently. When they have more then 5 tables full they are REALLY SLOW but the sushi is good. Poke bowl + baked scallops = amazing !!!!
(4)Eileen C.
This place is really good for the price! The seating arrangement is a little crowded, but still worth it. Whenever I want sushi this is the place I drive to.
(4)Chloe T.
Meal combos prices are great and the food is decent. BUT, the service here can be terrible at times. The waiters/waitresses are unpatients, can be rude. This is especially true when you call in to order for carry out. Because of this, I don't come to this location anymore.
(3)Mymy N.
3.5 stars The lunch specials are legit! Everyone knows this too so it gets super busy around lunchtime. Such a good deal though; best bang for your buck at only $7-8 for a huge amount of food! You get a choice of a CA, spicy tuna, or crunchy roll as well as a choice of teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef (i think), or tempura. Everything comes with a huge salad and miso soup. Seriously, legit. I wish the salad had that creamy dressing that's at other Japanese spots, but I have a feeling this place is not Japanese owned. It was more of a ponzu sauce for the dressing. My friend also got the Volcano roll which was bomb.com with the scallops. Wish we could substitute rolls into the lunch specials! Overall, a good lunch option at such a great price point. How could you go back to work after eating all that food though?!
(3)Natalie E.
pretty decent for a really good price. tataki tuna is delicious. california rolls are pretty good. poke is nice. not the most fresh but definitely good for the price. decent service
(3)Cat N.
i come here whenever im feeling nostalgic for simpler times, or simpler sushi. when CA rolls were legit n da sh*t. but whatever, i don't care, I'm still a fan! - ahi poke bowl or salad - crunchy roll: shrimp tempura in CA roll - cucumber special roll: variety fish wrapped in cucumber skin - spicy tuna roll: spicy tuna roll - volcano roll: baked scallops on CA roll - lunch combos of either CA, crunchy or spicy tuna rolls with choice of teriyaki beef/chicken or tempura, rice and citrus salad hits home for me, every time!
(4)Jenny C.
Cheap eats... i had better but if u are just craving for some decent sushi then this is not a bad place to be =) Service was ok...
(3)Andrea R.
It's a bit like being in Wonderland. Real Japanese sushi chefs wearing backward baseball caps, sushi served to you by Bill and Ted. Somebody back there has a sense of humor, I think. The thing is, Full Moon actually has great sushi, fresh and tasty. Clean and simple, light colored interior design sets a light and friendly mood. Service is prompt and cheerful. This place gets crowded for lunch and dinner rush for good reason. The pricing is on the mid- to low-end, well fitting the casual vibe of the place, but I never felt like I was eating "discount" sushi. The downside of all this inexpensive popularity of course is the inevitable cramped accomodations when they're busy. I try to come during the less insane (non-peak rush) hours so I can sit back and relax while I eat. A good choice if you're in the area looking for a quick meal. 3 and 1/2 stars.

I used to like this until I tried other sushi places. I was young and naive. But my friends somehow still like this place so they wanted to eat here. We went with a group of 6 girls. It took forever for our waitress to even come get our order. When we finally got our order placed, we sat there and waited for our food and then we waited, and waited, and waited. 30 Minutes went by and we tried to look for our waitress but somehow she disappeared. So we tried to wave down someone else. It seemed like they were LITERALLY trying to ignore our table. Everyone seemed like they were too busy helping everyone else then to help us. customers who came after we did, got their food and was almost done. after about one hour, we practically screamed to get someone's attention to help us. When they finally came, we told them that we did not get our food yet and it has been an hour(and none of the waitresses even noticed that we were sitting here waiting for our food for one hour). They decided to see what happened to our order and found out that our waitress forgot to put in our order!!! we were starving by now and were soo pissed off. I wanted to leave but the girls said we been waiting already, mind as well wait for our food. Of course the food came out quick but our original waitress never even came by to apologize. When we were done with our food, they gave us our bill that automatically added the gratuity(and we didn't even get a discount for waiting for our food!). We waved down one of the waitress and told them that we did not want to pay for that. She TOTALLY gave us an attitude and pretended that she didn't understand what we were saying. After explaining slowly that we did not want to pay for tip because our order was never placed and we had to wait about 1.5 hours for our food and had HORRIBLE customer service; they finally took it off. We paid for our FULL BILL and left. I am never coming back to this place.

3.2 stars Not bad but not good. We ate here because Shin Sen Gumi (which is in the same plaza) was closed after 2. The food here was mediocre but I consider it a fast food type sushi place so with that said, I actually give it 3.5 for being a fast food place. I like the fact that they had soy paper. My gripe was that the oil they used to fry the tempura and crab had a funny smell to it, like they re-used old oil from the night before. You can usually tell because it kinda smells stale. Again, I might be a weirdo, but ANY time I eat at a sushi place, I smell just about anything that has to do with meat before I eat it. Salmon skin hand roll was- ok ebi sushi- ok edamame- was cold salmon sashimi- ok california roll- ok ( my daughter ordered it) soft shell crab hand roll- ok shrimp tempura- NASTY! The tempura had a funny smell and the shrimp inside was soggy. fried shrimp head- NASTY! They gave me some deformed looking shrimp head similar to what seemed like a friggin Siamese shrimp head! (check out the Yelp pics I posted of it). It was so scary along with the stale oil smell that I didn't eat it. all the deep fried tempura items were NASTY with that stale smell and the thick heavy batter! Tempura should be light and flaky wouldn't you agree? I would not eat here again and just wait for Shin Sen Gumi or Kappo Honda across the street to open.
(3)Kim C.
I love this place. Great food, small and cozy. I've been going here for years. My husband and kids love this place too. Only reason why it doesn't get five stars is that their service is kinda slow...key thing is to order everything at once. My favorite is their jalepeno yellow tail with their special sauce and their aji with ponzu sauce is just mouthwatering! I've been to their two other locations and I love them too. I would love them to open one up in Huntington Beach...
(4)Carolyn D.
This was my go-to place for lunch during high school. It went down hill in cleanliness for awhile but I think they're back on their feet! Their combination lunches & dinners are a great deal. This isn't the best quality sushi, but you get what you pay for. Also, don't come here if you're looking for awesome service. I always order a poke salad to go after a long day when I know I won't be in the mood to cook.
(3)Edgar G.
I am not a sishi person. I don't like anything raw but my wife insisted to go and give it try. Try the cooked food of course. I tried the salmon (am not even a fish eater) and it was delicious. Wow! The eel sauce was awesome.
(5)Mikey P.
Delicious consistent tasting sushi. Fresh fish. Great customer service. I love this place and always leave with a smile on my face!
(5)Anna W.
Ok for simple dinning
(3)Gavin B.
Spider roll. It's intoxicating. Good with sake. but i must say theres been a couple of ackward situations there like one time my friend ordered something and he had this girl ther that didnt want anything and yoshi asked em to leave ??? and the lady comes out and hassled us for like a 20% tip and we gave em at least 10% for 2 ppl maybe just differnt culture but its not gonna stop me from going its like half mile from my house. and yoshi is awesome too. makes me laugh pretty hard. philadelphia roll is interesting as well ($7.50)
(4)Melody N.
Again, if yelp had half stars this place would get 3.5. I have been here in the past and decided to go here today for lunch. The place is cozy and tucked in away in a strip mall. The portions are large and the food is tasty. I got the poke bowl which had plenty of pieces of fresh tuna and salmon and is marinated in a light sauce on a bed of sticky sushi rice. I enjoyed mixing the wasabi around on the topped of it to give the dish a little kick. My friend got one of the combos where she got a sushi roll, salad, teriyaki, and rice. Both of our dishes came with miso soup. Service was pretty okay today - other times it can be a little slow. I think for the amount of food and the price, I would give this place 4 stars. I enjoyed the poke bowl and the crunchy roll but other items in the past I just thought they were just okay. Also service has been inconsistent in the past, but today was good, especially for lunch time.
(3)D O.
Best Crunchy Roll around. The Hawaiian Roll is also off the charts. Fish is always fresh and tasty. Service is outstanding. Price is affordable. Full Moon is my go to Sushi spot. The absolute best.
(5)John J.
When I was 17 my mom and pop rolled out another kid like sushi wrapped in a blue blanket. I baby sat that brat for a year before I moved out. Now he's a grown ass man and starting a career and things are looking good for him. Rockin the porn-stache like a nascar driver, he's been snagged like a dolphin in a trollers tuna net. So ladies, you'll have to wait, and see. Together we would frequent Full Moon to discuss past, future, and whether or not interdemensional beings would tear an opening in this space time simply to pass through and order some sushi. We think, they would. I must admit that my sushi experience is limited to maybe 3 establishments but, I give these guys a 4 star because the service is prompt (lest it's busy), polite, and sincere. Upon entering you are greeted in Japanese as the chefs sound off, so do the servers. I don't even know what they are saying but, it sounds and feels (holds hands out and closes eyes) like a greeting. Their prices won't break your bank. The chefs are fast, friendly, precise and fearless with those knives. Not a single band-aide on any ones fingers. Lastly, the food we've tried, is good. Their signature roll "The Full Moon" is quite flavorful, their "Full Moon Specials" are a healthy mixture of what my body craves. Other than, you know, air. Complete with Miso soup, salad, your choice of chicken, beef, and tempura,(May I suggest the tempura?) three selections of sushi, and, a quarter slice of orange, all for under 10$. Also, tried and enjoyed, El Jalapeno, Cucumber Special Roll, and their Baked Scallops were decent. Cheers to good food, and cheers to those running this business. Good Job guys!
(4)Ngoc T.
I love full moon. The poke salad and the healthy full moon are my absolutely favorites. The price is reasonable too. There are other full moon location but I like this one location the best. For healthier options the healthy full moon is perfect with no rice and soy wrapper. I go at least once a week. Mmm.. so good
(4)Lauren S.
I've been going here for years and it seems they have gone a little downhill with the service. the menu and quality of fish have stayed the same, as have the prices, but a couple of the new waiters are really not up to par with the way the other ones have helped me in the past. Regardless, I still am a frequent patron of this location since it is so close to my house. If you want to have better service and probably less of a wait, go up the street to the location in Costa Mesa (especially during dinner or lunch). Less people go to that one and service is quicker and the quality is also good and the prices are the same.

I ate an early dinner at Full Moon this afternoon with my cousin and sister. It was my first time eating here. The restaurant is very spacious and relatively clean, and the prices are pretty reasonable. To drink, we all got hot tea. To eat, my sister and cousin both ordered the sashimi dinner ($9.95 - eight pieces, comes with rice, miso soup and salad), and I selected the spicy tuna with beef dinner combo ($8.95 - comes with rice, miso soup and salad). We also decided to get the gyoza and spicy yellowtail cut roll to share. I thought the food here was good, but not great. Our food was a little slow in coming out, and there was not as much beef as I would like on my combo. Overall, though, it was not bad.

We, as Americans that bleed patriotism, have a freedom given to us by the Bill of Rights, to spend all our cash on hookers and blow. That shit is legal, if you didn't know. Not many people knew that. Now you do. Take advantage. Make that shit your New Years resolution. Not losing weight. That shit is played out. So that leaves both you and I broke. Broke and busted like Cameron Diaz's vagina. So of course, during these economically trying times, I crave sushi. The choicest stuff, but can't afford it. In which case, I return to Full Moon to enjoy their appropriately priced nigiri sushi and novelty rolls. Casual stuff. Not pricey stuff. It'll get the job done though and it's good. And you won't get sick. Trust. I can now say that I like Full Moon as much as Tim Tebow likes to visit third world countries to circumsize penises following the NFL season. He'll catch the first flight out to the Philippines after he gets bounced out of the playoffs in the first round and snip away. The menu and execution is fairly limited, once again, like Tim Tebow's throwing ability. But somehow, Full Moon pulls off the victory. The tempura batter is light, how I like, but still remains way too oily. The pieces are nearly translucent, but that won't stop me from stuffing my face with it. The beef teriyaki is paper thin. The misoshiru is usually lukewarm and ocha piping hot. The place is very casual. So if you're a sushi noob tuber, this place is perfect to get your feet wet. The nigiri ranges from $2.50 to $3.50, so don't expect Ohshima type shit. I was feeling extra gaijin this day, so I ordered the Poke Roll. It's basically a California Roll topped with poke. I was pleased. The maguro was soft like Susan Sarandon's ample aged bosom. They have other colorful rolls for you flash happy picture takers. Now go represent America proudly.

I am a foodie and I go to different restaurants every so often. I must say Full Moon Sushi is a very wise choice. Food is good, price is even better! My faves are the philly, unagi, baked scallop, crunch rolls. Im going there for lunch today. Mr Server, please don't open my diet coke. I'll do it myself! :)
(5)Khaly L.
I was there yesterday. I had a good dinner with my honey and friends eventhough we had to waiting in line before dinner.
(4)Lisa T.
First timer here and I really like this place! I love little sushi/Japanese eateries. The food taste fresh and the prices are soooo low! The Full Moon lunch or dinner specials are the way to go. You get an order of rolls (California, tuna, or Crunchy) plus a salad, rice, miso soup, and tarayaki chicken, beef, or tempura for $7-$10!!! (Depending on which items you choose.) What a deal! Didn't try the sushi, but the rolls and meals were really good. Soda comes in a can. Service was good. Place was busy for a Friday afternoon. Will be back.
(4)Diana N.
Shin-sen-gumi was super packed so, Le Boyfriend and I ventured over here. The interior was pretty decent on Fountain Valley terms. Full Moon is just the neighborhood sushi joint with a limited menu and reasonably priced rolls. I didn't try any of their specialties (I'd rather spend an extra $3-5 at a quality place), but I did try their combos! It included chicken, beef, or tempura, rice, salad, miso soup, and your choice of either Spicy Tuna, California, or a Crunchy roll. I opted for the California which was $7, the Spicy Tuna was $7.50, and the Crunchy roll was $9.50. The miso soup was delicious, how can you screw up miso? Killed that shit quick. The chicken was really good, but the entire cut was a little too thin. Regardless, still very filling. The rice was plentiful and I didn't really touch the salad. The cali roll was edible, but very mushy. I wouldn't buy it on it's own. The spicy tuna that my boyfriend got was pretty disgusting though. The whole meal was about 7/10. Really filling for what we paid. We had ordered take out and the food came out in like 10 minutes. Quick and helpful service.
(3)ace c.
The service here was horrible and the food wasn't any better. When we came in, the girl at the front didn't greet us and had a rude attitude. We ordered hot green tea and we got hot water and a tea bag. When she brought it out, as just dropped the tea bag on the table. Ordered chicken teriyaki and the chicken was cold and the rice was cold too. There were other things that made the service pretty bad too
(1)Ian K.
I came here with some co-workers on our lunch break. I had a good experience at the Tustin location, but it was only mediocre in Fountain Valley. The size of the rolls were decent, however; the wait for the food was not worth it. I have much better experiences at other sushi bars.
(3)Elena T.
The first sushi restaurant I ever went to. There are some good things about Full Moon and some bad things. The good: Low prices and the fact that they're open all the time. Other places close in the afternoon or aren't open for weekend lunches, but Full Moon's always there. I've been here many times and I can say that their Crunchy Roll is probably the best I've had. Lots of people say Matsu has the best Crunchy, but I think Full Moon's it the best! (You should try 'em both though! :D) Other good rolls: Salmon Special, Healthy Full Moon, Spider, sometimes Rainbow and Caterpillar, but it seems to depend on the day. The bad: The rolls can be a bit small (seem to be shrinking ever time!) and this past time we had horrible service. Our second spider roll didn't even have a crab on the end piece, and other pictures show two crabs! It was disappointing and that roll was a waste of money. They could use more waiters/waitresses because the lag time was ridiculous. We were in there for over an hour and didn't order all that much... Udon is terrible. You've been warned. Also beware... TEA IS NOW $1 A CUP?!
(3)Sharon K.
Decently priced food. I've had both good and bad service. One of the most popular rolls is the Crunchy Roll. It's crispiest crunchy roll I've tasted. Other favorites are the Hawaiian Roll and the Volcano Roll. The sushi and sashimi are not as fresh as I would like, but it is decent for the price!
(3)Jenn V.
Full moon is definitely one of my regular sushi spots. The place is cute and simple, sometimes it can get crowded but they're reasonably priced enough for me to wait a bit to get a table. I love the crunchy roll here, I don't normally order crunchy rolls when I eat sushi but it's light and crispy and yummy. The rolls have the perfect amount of rice on them. I also recommend: Volcano roll - baked scallops on top lunch/dinner specials Poke Fried Calamari or Soft Shell Crab Eel cucumber roll Sashimi and... SALMON SKIN SALAD - a fresh salad with tangy soy dressing, topped with a ton of crispy salmon skin and bonita. I absolutely love this salad and this is something I definitely go here for. If you love salmon skin, order this, like right now. The service is always nice and the place is clean, haven't had a problem with anything yet and I've been here plenty of times.
(4)Sarah T.
First time at a sushi restaurant. Other times I've always eaten sushi at buffets and revolving sushi bars, so I didn't know what to expect. I cam around 7:30 PM and it was packed. They have kiddie chopsticks for the tot. First we ordered the California crunch roll and then the Full Moon Roll. It took a while for it to come out but it was so worth the wait. California was good and better than a lot of places but didn't stand out. However, Full Moon roll was soooooooooo delicious. It consists of tuna, salmon, crab meat, and a warm crunch roll outside. It was so good we had to order another! Only complaint is that it takes a long time for food to come out. Portions seem to be pretty small too.

I have been here quite a few times now, it is close by my work and sushi for lunch is a favorite of mine. Sushi anytmie actually! Anyhow, this place is casual, and fun, and the sushi is delish! There is no wait most days and the staff is very friendly and accommodating! The sushi is always fresh and not priced too high. There are not as many sushi speciality rolls as other places but it gets the job done and I am full when I leave.
(4)Alyssa L.
I really liked this place I thought the prices were very reasonable. $1.50 for edamame and $1 for miso is really cheap! Their fish was fresh and they are happy to accommodate your needs (FYI Im very picky I hate crap meat!) Order the cucumber roll if you like low carb ;)
(4)Stephen P.
4.5 stars I love this place. For all you LA snobs there's great neighborhood eateries in O.C. :) I was introduced to this one for its good Japanese sushi...but the only thing to say is Poke bowl! It's the best I've had in CA. If you want to take a detour Blue Moon also has Sashimi bowls and Unagi bowls, but when something's this good why switch?! We ordered a few other sushi dishes off of the specials menu and stuffed our faces for a modest $45 incl tip. if you're in the area definitely stop by this place, even if it's just for the pretty waitress and the trendy crowd.

A place that has deception and generic in the same sentence. Generic in decor and appearance like any other spot. Deception because although my retarded GPS, made it seem like this place was on the other side of Brookhurst St. it was "unknowingly" in the same plaza as my old number ramen spot Shin Sen Gumi (Fountain Valley, Ca.) Walking inside with Ki-Master and Kundeezy felt like going into the Panda Express for Sushi. Obviously it caters to more american tastes "more hand rolls and cut rolls" and less emphasis on the raw sashimi. The prices were on the cheaper end as all others have mentioned for rolls, but for raw fish it wasn't worth the time. From total recall this is what I believed we ordered: Drinks Water all around Entrees (Hand Rolls and Cut Rolls) w/ sides of Miso Soup and Rice (optional if you like) (6 pieces each Roll while Handrolls served only for 1 person) -1 order of Crunchy Roll -1 order of Philadelphia Roll -1 order of Salmon Roll -1 order of Yellowtail Roll -1 order of Salmon Hand Rolll -1 order of Yellowtail Hand Roll Sashimi (4 pieces each order) -2 orders of Salmon -2 orders of Yellowtail Overall the bill was about $60.00 plus tax and tip (which isn't too bad given the amount of rolls we got). Service was pretty consistent, but it isn't a spot I would come back to on the regular (no Omakase or certain specialties). Perhaps we should have went to "Full Moon" in Costa Mesa, instead of the Fountain Valley one. Oh well, mistakes happen at least we were somewhat full in the long run. Cheers!

The lunch specials are a great deal here. Other than that, I haven't found any super good sushi rolls here. Service was okay. The entree does take awhile to be delivered but that's expected because they're almost always busy...during lunch and dinner times.
(3)Quazi S.
Favorite suishi place in "The Valley" Pros: *Good cheap sushi. *Crunchy roll and volcano roll are awesome. *Lunch speacials are priced decent. Cons: *New ownership is not as good as old ownership. *Edamame served cold. *Service is not great. Ambiance: Feels like a neighborhood sushi joint. Nothing too fancy.

Horrible 3 times! We went there early last Saturday evening. The food was Horrible. The vegetables and the sushi were not fresh. The service was Horrible. The servers made us feel uncomfortable. They barely said hello when we walked in, but they jubilantly welcomed other customers who came in after us. Mind you, we're a small family - my wife, our 8 year-old daughter and me. The ambiance was ... you get the picture. It's not just a hole-in-the-wall. It's an uninviting and unclean place.
(1)Stephanie F.
I have been a loyal eater at Full Moon.
(4)Misa N.
This is my ultimate go-to sushi spot in Fountain Valley. Everything is reasonably priced and it tastes the service is always top notch. I generally get my regular dishes: healthy full moon roll, salmon skin handroll, unagi sushi, poke salad, or the combination plate with crunchy roll. I've noticed that the restaurant has been changing their menu slightly in recent months. Their beef teriyaki plate no longer tastes the same. They use to provide us thick pieces of beef that was tender and juicy. Now they have changed it to thin slices of beef that doesn't even satisfy my tastebuds. It is disappointing to say the least. The poke salad USE to be great. But ever since I got a plate that wasn't so fresh, I never ordered it again. This place serves alcohol but there isn't any happy hour. I would be their #1 customer if they served it though! But the place gets packed as it is so it wouldn't even matter if they had happy hour. In a nutshell, I recommend coming here. But just know it gets insanely crowded on weekends and anytime after 7pm.
(4)Mick H.
I am a big fan of full moon. I have been going there for years and always enjoy the experience. Try the poke salad. Delicious. Staff always treat me well
(4)Shannon P.
I've been eating sushi here for over 4 years. I'm from Hawaii and it reminds me of being back home because of the excellent Ahi poke bowls and island vibe.
(5)Christina C.
This is a cute little sushi spot in the Ralphs plaza. The portions are small, but so are the prices. If Ruri is working, ask him to make the "yellowtail special roll." He created it for me and everyone else who's tried it loves it. It consists of 1) spicy tuna inside, 2) yellowtail on top, with garlic and jalepeno. Eat it with ponzu sauce or a spicy red sauce if you feel like some kick. The baked scallop bowl is also quite tasty. Also they are the only sushi place I know of that serve Chablis wine - the best white wine to accompany sushi.
(3)Kathy P.
I love this place. It's close to my house and their service is great. It's a very affordable price and their food is delicious. My all time favorite is the baked salmon roll. I suggest everyone order this if you haven't already!
(5)Brian N.
Pros: -Cheap Good Sushi -Amazing Poke Bowl -Volcano Roll is genius Cons: -Service is a little slow and unattentive -Noise level reflected the fact that lots of high schoolers like the place -Sometimes the tables aren't clean, had to get the table I sat at rewiped because it was still sticky This place could definitely be a 4-5 star if their service was a lot better, and if their roles were placed with a little more care. Some of the pieces i got were already split or broken before the plate was even handed to me, but the taste is undoubtedly there.
(3)Pete G.
I frequent this Full Moon Sushi (it's better than Costa Mesa's IMO). In the years I've eaten here, I always sit at the bar and have never had a bad experience. Today I had the Poke appetizer (my fave), Uni sushi, Salmon sushi, Octopus sushi and finished off with Yellowtail Belly Sashimi. Boy, was I stuffed! I eat a lot of Poke every time I go to Hawaii. I've tried it in many places but Full Moon's comes the closest to it that I've found. Again this day...everything was awesome! Today's lunch with iced tea, $24. Staff is very nice too.
(4)Cuong V.
Not too bad.
(3)Jin L.
it's actually japanese owned, and you don't get a lot of that these days. they don't have a whole lot of variety with the rolls, but luckily i'm not a huge roll person. it's super casual and just chill. they have your beer and sake. and they've got your selection of sush. i always order the salmon, unagi, hamachi and spicy tuna hand roll. they are always super fresh with a good amount of rice. i hate sushi places that over load on the rice and skimp out on the fish. prices are about 3-5 which is pretty average. the chicken and beef terriyaki's pretty good too. comes with salad, rice, and tempura.
(4)Ken H.
This place has no idea what FRESH is all about. The Sashimi smelt so bad, horrible place, I WILL NEVER GO BACK....
(1)Szu L.
If you want a quick Japanese fix, Full Moon is decent. The prices aren't too bad and the service is okay. They have a great special with California roll, Teriyaki chicken or beef, soup, salad, and rice for under $7. The atmosphere is mediocre and you get your food pretty quickly.
(3)Simply Anonymous P.
one word....POKE. seriously poke anything is the best. whenever i come here i always order something poke. whether its the poke bowl, poke salad, or even the hawaiian roll (which has poke on top) they're all DELICIOUS! i never get anything else. and im always craving it. im craving it right now. alot of people dont like this place cause of the service and because they think it has low quality fish. but really its the best sushi place there is. it has a welcoming atmosphere and its not generic like other sushi chains. i dont care what anyone says i love it. i come here every week at least once. yum yum yum! GET THE POKE!!!
(5)Grace N.
one of my favorite sushi places to dine at. their crunchy roll, hawaiian roll, and poke bowl are all really good items to order. service can be slow at times, especially when you need your water refilled
(4)Karen S.
be prepared for the slowest service EVER EVER EVER. i think it took 15 minutes to get my drink refilled and another 30 just to get the check. the food wasnt that good either. my tempura wasnt hot or crispy and the teriyaki chicken was chewy. i dont really eat sushi but ive heard its pretty good for how cheap it is.
(2)blair h.
delicious! quick, easy, reasonably priced, and friendly. my favorite place for sushi
(5)Christine P.
i ordered takeout and they were not really friendly when i went to pick up my food. they pushed me to the side and rushed me out of there. i found a scale in my poke salad. they poured the dressing on and when i got home my salad was super soggy. the flavors were not good. my pal also bit into something super hard like maybe a bone? he also found a piece of something else too. i usually love sushi and rolls, but we practically threw away half of the food.
(2)kim c.
took my brother there for his b-day. all i can say was that it was the worst b-day experience for our family. the service, in particular, was terrible. our waitress was either having an extremely grumpy day or had a permanent frown. she was so rude and abrupt with all of us for absolutely no reason! on top of it all i found a bug on my salad and the food itself was not that great. we were all so disappointed that we left in the middle of the dinner and both my parents lost their appetite and could not finish their meals. pretty bad considering my dad eats almost anything!
(1)Emily Y.
i go here pretty often and i must say it is decent sushi for a cheap price. the lunch/dinner combos are a great deal and the poke bowl is my favorite! the service is not spectacular but i don't blame them because it gets super busy. ive never really experienced too bad of service here. overall 4 stars for good food at a cheap price! the only bad thing about this place is the limited seating/area. you are literally inches away from the table next to you if you are going in with two people!!!! eeksa, awkward for everyone because you can hear conversations a lot of the time!
(4)Jennifer V.
there was a grub in my edamame...!!! 'nuff said.
(1)Becky L.
Full Moon is a great place for cheap combos, and you don't have to wait around lunch time for the cheap prices! I always order the chicken teriyaki full moon combo and it comes with miso soup, rice, a salad, chicken teriyaki, and crunchy roll for ten bucks! The wait can be a little long if you go in the evening, but not THAT bad.
(5)Steven L.
i like this place for what it is: cheap sushi. the cuts of fish were not very fresh; the tuna was a bit mushy, the hamachi kinda tasteless, the rice in the nigiri a little too sticky... but for the prices i paid, i can't really complain. 10 bucks for a sushi/sashimi dinner is pretty hard to find anywhere. add an extra roll or appetizer and you've got a pretty decent meal for about $15.
(2)Tirah N.
I used to eat here a lot a few years back but since then i've graduated to better sushi. the prices were great for the portions and the staff here were super friendly. i would always get the sushi and terriyaki combo. some days the terriyaki would be great and on others it would be so-so but i wasnt complaining because of how cheap it was. i've been back there a little over two years ago and it didn't taste the same. It'd be nice if they offered more sushi rolls on their menu. well if you're itching for sushi and don't want to spend a fortune then this is the place but i'd rather spend a little more for better quality sushi and more variety.
(3)Nora R.
We stumbled upon this place after a relaxing pedi at Luxury Nails in the same parking lot. It's a convenient location with lots of parking. The decor is contemporary with clean lines, simple yet appealing and inviting. Service, simple no nonsense but prompt. Food was nicely plated and well prepared. We had lunch specials; some come with california rolls and tempura, with miso soup and salad. Some with choice of teriyaki meat (I had the salmon which was delicious). All for under 7 or 8 dollars. Tempura was crisp and fresh and perfectly battered. Everything tasted great! I would easily go back when I'm in the area!
(5)Christina B.
Today was my first time here in a looooong time. They have new menu items from the last time I've returned which was about a year ago! I'm not a big fan of raw sushi, but my older sister who is determined to get me to looove raw sushi as much as her insisted I try her order (I usually only order baked stuff at sushi places =x). To my surprise, the raw sushi was pretty good! Anyways,.. Food I ordered: Cucumber salad - if you love cucumbers, order this mini salad. Pretty yummy & healthy. 2 CA hand rolls on soy paper = delicious! & healthy.. Baked Salmon roll - my all time favorite roll from ANY sushi restaurant, but it was really good here. Healthy Full Moon Special - the raw order! Not sure what type of fish was in it, but it was pretty good for someone like me that doesn't like raw sushi to begin with. The fish must've been fresh or something Service: They were very welcoming! Greeted guests as they come & go. Took orders quickly and the food came pretty fast too (at least service was quick when I was there earlier) Seating arrangement: The only downside. The tables are so closely aligned that you can pretty much hear the conversation going on at the table next to you. It is a small sushi place compared to some other sushi locations. Price: definitely affordable! It's no fine dining, but its a decent price for the satisfaction of your belly.

Having lived in Japan in my miss spent youth, My taste buds developed an acute since of taste for Sushi. Second Rate ingredients will never satisfy my undying love of Japanese casein. Full Moon Restaurant is a small cute WONDERFUL place to eat. Fresh and delightful at a very affordable price. My wife and I call this wonderful little place our date night food connection. You will love the food, enjoy the environment and when you pay the bill laugh as you gladly hand over a great tip.
(5)Keith D.
Good food. I like their Poke Salad.
(4)Kymberly T.
"Meh. I've experienced better." by far. That's as great as I can say about it... I was deceived by the other reviews (or perhaps I just really appreciate quality sushi) but whatever I'm used to, it's not this. I like my fish to have the fresh, pure natural flavors of raw fish that is light and not too gamey. While it may seem like they have a huge selection and portions, it's actually rather small and the flavors aren't that great. I ordered the healthy full moon roll. The fish was really bland, definitely not fresh, the crab mix was too salty that I had to eat rice with every bite (defeats the purpose). So would I come back? Noo sirree.
(2)Donna D.
Our family has been dining here since it opened. It is sad to see it go downhill since we live so close. Takeout orders are the worse. We typically order the chicken teriyaki with California roll combination since it's the only thing kids will eat. The food temperature is barely warm; the 1/2 teaspoon salad dressing is on the bottom of the lettuce. Don't bother requesting the food to be hot because the cooks do not honor your request. With a family of 6 it is a good bargain but not if the food isn't good and give most of it to the dog. One time we decided to eat in and were told they were too busy to seat and serve 6 people. Until recently we enjoyed the Poke Bowl, Crunchy Roll, and Hawaiian Roll. We've given up and with many other choices in the area will no longer fill our cravings for Japanese cuisine at Full Moon
(1)Annie M.
I WOULD NEVER recommend someone to eat at this establishment. Upon arrival, we received no greeting and awkwardly stood at the door waiting to be seated or even be given some type of instructions (as it was our first time there.) Not until another guest tapped on a servers shoulder, did they notice we were there. After being seated and given our food we tasted it and it was similar to something from a regular supermarket. Not authentic. We continued our meal and even ordered more food but when trying to get the servers attention, we felt like we were "bothering" them. Yes, it was busy but we were customers just like everyone else and we had hardly been payed attention to. After we finished and payed our bill we didn't find it necessary to leave a tip. So we left, but as we were getting into our car the server approaches us, sticks his head in our car and says "you didn't leave a tip" while holding the bill in his hands. SHOCKED we were awkwardly FORCED to leave him with a $3 tip. WE WILL NEVER BE RETURNING. DO NOT GO HERE THE SERVERS WILL HARASS YOU AND FOLLOW YOU TO YOUR CAR AND FORCE YOU TO GIVE THEM A TIP.

My boyfriend loves this sushi place so we have eaten here a few times. It's pretty good, nothing was amazing. I'm a sushi addict so I might be spoiled, but I would say this is a good place to go for standard sushi rolls and Japanese cuisine. Just don't expect anything fancy. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait, but the service is always good and I always leave full. =)
(3)Tammy G.
Really fantastic sushi! Sit at the bar, these guys will make you some great rolls if you explain your favorite flavors. In my case, they have given me some SUPER spicy, delicious sushi. As a couple, drinking beer and customizing sushi rolls at the bar makes a nice date night! It's always nice to chat with other sushi lovers and share ideas of what to order next. This sushi place beats MANY others on flavor. Worth a drive, if you aren't nearby.

Full Moon Fountain Valley... is the Ex that you've given too many chances to and still disappoints. Came here for lunch on a Saturday... ordered the Sashimi lunch and a few rolls. 15 mins later and no Miso soup or salad? I ask our waitress and she claims they are still working on it! What is there to work on for soup and salad? I'd be a little more understanding if it was a full house but the place was half-empty. At the end of the meal my card sat on the table unnoticed for another 10-15--so I had to walk it up to cash register myself. I do give them 2 stars for good food @ decent price, but I'd rather spend the extra 5 min trek down the 405s to the Harbor/Baker location where the service doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth. FullMoon@FV.. It was fun while it lasted but I'm changing my number!
(2)Jackie V.
This is definitely one of my go-to sushi places, especially when I'm not willing to spend so much on a lunch or dinner. The prices here are ridiculously cheap, we're talking 2-5$ per roll here. The specials are pretty cheap too, volcano and catepillar rolls for about 7$. They also have this lunch and dinner special where you get a salad, terriyaki chicken, beef, or tempura, rice, miso soup, and your choice of california, spicy tuna, or crunchy roll for under $10. I myself always get either the spicy tuna or crunchy roll special because it fills me up and because the salad and chicken terriyaki are to die for. Their miso soup is just right so you don't have to add extra soy sauce. My favorite here is definitely the crunchy roll. It's just perfect, the eel sauce on top is like the icing to a cake. You will definitely be satisfied with it. Their unagi, calimari, and other appetizers are pretty tasty as well. I've tried the volcano roll and while it's very cool looking, it wasn't what I imagined it to taste like. A little too rich for my liking. Another one of my favorites here is the philly roll. Other places may have too much cream cheese or too much salmon, but the proportions are perfect at Full Moon. Oh and did I mention the ginger is also really good? Definitely give this place a try, it won't drive a hole into your pocket!
(4)Kenneth L.
As a high school student this place is GREAT for your buck! Lunch and dinner specials go for under $10 and gets you full. - Miso soup - Rice, salad, meat (I usually get chicken or beef) - Roll (usually fine with the CA roll but when I feel baller I get the crunch) Again the quality here isn't the greatest but for the price it will be enough for you to be satisfied. I haven't really tried anything else on the menu so I'm not sure how the rest of the menu is. Well I took a bite of my friend's poke bowl and I've got to say that the sashimi tasted very fresh. Go here for cheap Japanese dishes!
(3)Jeff K.
why do people come here? either shen shen gumi is super packed. or they want a complete meal for cheap... i only paid like 8ish bucks (that's including tip) for my chicken teriyaki with rice, with salad, 8 pieces of spicy tuna rolls and miso soup. god damn. i was feasting like a king. you really can't get that much cheaper. fuck feed the children foundation, bring them here and you'll feed them 10x over. The only problem with my meal was that the chicken teriyaki was a bit dry and was definitely lacking flavor. it was not juicy nor that lip smacking... the spicy tuna rolls were aiteee, they went down ok... just like how a naught girl goes down. ya know what i'm talking about. getting on her knees to do some hard gardening shit. its serious business yo. parking is ample, and the service is very quick.
(3)Lisa N.
I use to go here a lot back in high school; and when I say a lot, I mean at least once or twice a week for months straight. These days, not as often but I still like the food here, and they added more rolls to their menu than they had when I first started going here. I recommend getting the teriyaki beef (there's also chicken or tempura) and crunchy roll combination. The crunchy roll would probably be their most popular roll. The spider roll and volcano roll are good too. If you want a lighter meal and like sashimi, get the seafood salad. The prices aren't steep and the food fills you up. I have some fond memories of my high school days at this place.
(4)Jason A.
I believe there are better places for sushi in Orange County. It's not bad, the people are nice, however, I have to agree with some of the other Yelpers here regarding the service. Sometimes it takes a while for them to realize that I'm sitting at the bar and I haven't been served yet. This tends to happen during the lunch rush when time is against me. I've been tempted to just get up and drive back to the Hataka Ramen just north of here when I'm subject to neglect. The pricing is average for a sushi place. But I'm spoiled from other outstanding places like the Sushi Samurai in Cerritos where entire combos cost about the same as one roll. I still can't find myself to shell out more than $5 a roll...anything more than that, and I begin to have second thoughts. The presentation of rolls and sushi is--meh. However, the quality and taste of the rolls are decent. I usually go for a rainbow roll and a tempura roll of some sort. Occasionally, I'll go for salmon sushi. The only reason why I come here? Because I haven't taken the time to research for additional sushi places close to work and I have a hankering for some raw fish.
(2)Jhoanna S.
This is my goto Sushi place, decent prices for decent food! I normally order for pick up and at times it take longer than the prep time they tell you on the phone. Staff is friendly, but on busy nights, service isn't as fast. Overall, good place, I recommend it.
(4)Lola B.
Authentic, Japanese ran sushi bar. I felt so full of fuzzy goodness in here. It makes me miss Japan a great deal. Friendly chefs, decent prices...I cannot wait to come by again when I am in the area.
(4)Ryan S.
Great sushi. The tuna and yellowtail are the best. The more simple the roll the better so stay away from the big fancy ones. The yellowtail cheek appetizer is the best thing I've eaten in a long time. Everyone there is super friendly and greet you as you walk in. Lots of people so there are many fans
(4)Michelle O.
You really can't beat the prices at this place. Not the freshest sashimi out there, but definitely worth the price. Their specialty rolls are quite tasty if that's what you're going for. They have these "Full Moon Combinations" that are really good. I got their california roll combo, which I also got chicken teriyaki, salad, and a miso soup for only $6.50. Doesn't get much better. Good prices for beer as well. Bottom line... good sushi for cheap is more then okay for me.
(4)Franz F.
Solid sushi for hole in the wall, strip mall-located sushi joint. Try the albacore belly...melts in your mouth. Great low carb-options. Great prices. Very casual environment. Had good service at the sushi bar.
(4)Daniel C.
Great spot with great value. The prices and portions are amazing. You can never go wrong when you order the Lunch/Dinner Specials, the Volcano Roll, Ahi Poke Salad. Chicken Udon, Baked Mussels, Deep Fried Gyoza, Spider Roll, and any Unagi/Eel Roll.
(4)Christine L.
Full Moon has been one of my go-to places for sushi for the past few years. It isn't the greatest sushi around, but it is great for its price. What I've Tried: teriyaki chicken, poke bowl, crunchy roll, california roll, spicy tuna roll, full moon roll, volcano roll, and more. My favorite roll is the volcano roll, so I try it at every sushi place I go to. Full moon takes the trophy! If volcano rolls aren't your cup of tea, I highly recommend the poke bowl or full moon roll--both are delicious! Prices: At Full Moon, you get what you pay for. Sure, the quality of the sushi isn't the finest, but it IS good for its price. A lot of people usually opt for one of the lunch/dinner combos which consists of miso soup, a small salad, your pick between three rolls, and your pick between a teriyaki item or tempura. They have a separate lunch menu and a dinner menu as well. Service: I took away one star because of the service. All the times that I've been here, which have been A LOT, I've left unsatisfied with the service. The waitresses are rude most of the time, and I always feel rushed when talking to them. They also take forever with your food, even when there are only a few people eating in the restaurant. They could definitely improve their service, but again, you get what you pay for--good sushi for a cheap price along with shitty service. Location: It's located next to Radio Shack in the same plaza as Ralph's, Mimi's Cafe, Subway, etc. If you plan on going here for dinner, you should probably arrive early because it usually gets crowded during dinner hours. But other than that, I'd recommend this restaurant as a lunch spot to everyone.
(4)Howard S.
here's the thing... it's in a strip-mall, next to a radio shack, in fountain valley... it is what it is. a decent sushi restaurant, at a reasonable price. don't expect it to be Taka in the gaslamp in san diego, then you won't get disappointed. i can't stand some of the reviewers that blast certain places for that it isn't, it;s like giving mcdonalds a bad review because the beef they use wasn't aged for 28 days... now, that being said, full moon is a place for good, fresh sushi at a reasonable price. there is usually a wait, nothing prohibitive, but a wait non the less. service is always good, but the seating can be cramp from time to time... the some of the specialty rolls are very good, the one with scallops is tasty and creamy, the one with the deep fried soft shell crab is probably on the black list of any cardiologist, but it's worth the cholesterol count. the sushi is always good and fresh. the special's on the board is worth looking at... i would eat at the bar all the time if i had a choice... go, eat cheap, fresh sushi and be happy.
(4)Que D.
Nothing bad to say about this place but since I gave the Costa Mesa location 3 stars for being average, I'm giving this one 4 for being slightly better IMO. The chefs are fun and they always acknowledge you when you enter/exit the door. Food has always been good and this place is where I fell in love with the Crunch roll.
(4)Minh N.
I really love this place...the people are really like friends. the fish is fresh and I love their crunchy roll and Sweet Shrimp Boat, the price is great too! I always recommend this place to friends and family. My # 1 spot, everyone knows me there.
(5)Mark A.
My very first visit here. Came along here with one of my newest best friends (she's great, ha!) after her tattoo was done. Nice little place on Ellis and Brookhurst and plenty of lot parking to go around. She opted for 2 different roll orders, while I ordered an entree & crunch roll. The service was pretty fast and friendly. When I mean little place, I mean... So if you're surrounded by people who are having their own conversations, it may be hard to hear what your friend is saying (unless you get a booth, then you have a bit more privacy, lol!). Spent an hour+ here since we were conversing. An unfortunate "Fly" incident happened, but only contaminated 2 pieces of her Sushi order. 3 stars since IT IS A-OK. Perhaps will go up with further visits! (Thanks for dinner, *A*, you were too stealthy nabbing that check, lol!)
(3)Maianh H.
Full Moon, will you marry me? Definitely one of the best hole in the wall sushi joints. Terriyaki Chicken w/ tempura & crunchy roll. The chicken is average, tempura is fresh & the crunchy roll is TO DIE FOR. Baked Scallop appetizer is amazeee and super creamy. Definitely get the soft shell crab. They're tiny and so good; a little prcey though but completely worth it! The service isn't that great but hey, the prices make up for it. Not gonna lie, the restaurant kinda smells. I realize its a seafood place, but c'mon I know they can do something about it. Come to Full Moon for lunch, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Orion O.
Ever since they had changed ownership about a year or two ago, the portions seemed to be diminishing. Maybe it's just me but I've noticed that a couple of times dining in after the change. Still good nonetheless for an average sushi lover but I likely won't return unless it's convenient. =)
(3)Char M.
I wish this place had a better seating arrangement...that's my biggest gripe with it...other than the seating and it's a bit of a drive for me...I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! They have great rolls, the sashimi quality is kind of hit or miss, and the service is the same... They have great lunch specials though...and they are valid on the weekend as well...it's get busy though...and considering seating is already crowded...it makes for a bad impression when you get there...but give the food a chance...it's a good amount of food for the price and when you hit a jackpot on service and sushi quality...it's definitely your night...you might as well press your luck and take it all the way to Vegas baby...(ha ha...that would be my mom's motto)... They also have pretty decent prices on bottled beer...skip the sake...it's not that good!

The sushi here tastes fresh to me! I personally love getting the Volcano Roll because the scallops just melt in your mouth! One of my favorite sushi places to go to, because the sushi doesn't taste like it's been sitting there for God knows how long. Service is good. Prices are okay. Full Moon one of my favorite places for sushi, and never fails to deliver!

I had been there a few times before, but I will never return to their establishment. I purchased a take-out order with a 42% tip, because they are relatively cheap, and I feel that tipping well would build good rapport between myself and their business, which I thought I may begin to frequent more often. I took care to clearly communicate to the friendly waitress that I wanted green tea ice cream. I received green tea, the beverage, with my order. I kindly alerted her to the mistake, and she asked me for $.053. Being that I had placed my wallet in the car while I waited for my order to be ready, I asked her if she could subtract the difference from the tip. She went to speak to her manager. Her manager spoke to me with such condescension that I marvel that someone with such a lack of appreciation for customers could be in a position of authority. His demeanor was rude and his words short. He basically laughed at my suggestion that he take the $0.53 out of the tip, and asked "You don't have $0.53?" I told him my wallet was in the car. He then expressed with great agitation that he would have to void the transaction and charge me again (correctly, this time). I said 'okay', retrieved my wallet (which didn't have $0.53 in it), and allowed him to run my card. It's been almost three days and the transaction hasn't been voided on my account. I will no longer be a patron of their restaurant, no matter how good their green tea ice cream is. And it is good.

I used to LOVE full moon. It's been spectacular to me in the last few years I've been eating there, but I can't help but notice the quality of the restaurant go down in the last year. Smaller portions. Longer waits. Nearly impossible to ever bring a party larger than 4. Poorer Service from the staff. I'd still go and love it even because of these things because even with its decline it still ranks higher than other sushi restaurants....but the kicker was the FOOD POISONING i got recently. 48 hours of misery from a spicy tuna roll topped with spicy tuna. I had it one night and by the early hours of the next morning I was curled up into a ball. Just be careful and watch out for spicy tuna! It'll hide any funky taste in fish!

I'm really surprised this place did not get better reviews. My first time here a couple of years ago did not impress me. I only remember the fried soft shell crab being really good but the portion was small but I recently decided to try the food again. This time I liked it a lot. I don't eat much raw sushi except for tuna by the way. Their crunchy roll was exceptional, my favorite ! Poke salad was very big and had a lot of fish. very good. Spicy tuna roll was ok , not my fav. Soft shell crab was good but portion was small . Overall, even though I don't eat raw sushi , I am still very picky with my sushi places because I expect fresh rolls ( the rice has to be soft and freshly made). Tuna can't be "game-y" This is my new go -to-place for reasonally priced , fresh japanese food. Each item we ordered was only 6 bucks each so for 2 ppl, we only spent 35 bucks total . Also , the place was packed down !! but customer service was good. they had us seated quickly and food came out fast. Again, I don't get why others gave negative reviews. I will continue going here and will update .. :)

Today's experience has redeemed this restaurant. Much time has passed since my last visit and upon seeing the menu, I had forgotten how cheap every thing is! Also, the people working here are Japanese! Ethnic food cooked by the corresponding ethnicity!! Yay! Anyway, felt like being spontaneous and took out my significant other after work. We ordered: Teriyaki Chickencombo - some pieces of chicken were a little dry but still good crunchy roll, Spider roll, salmon special roll- all were very good. I was also surprised by the great buttery taste of the salmon ^_^ vegie tempura- best I've had in ages, and by ages I mean conscious memory and two piece of unagi nigiri -because a sushi experience isn't complete without it. Bill came out to little less than 40$ including tip. Only downside was that the seating was kind of cramped. We were one foot away from another couple and we had to bear their conversation about their band and all the "drama" that's happening :( Other than that, a dinner of cheap, A-OK sushi with a girl that stole my heart and still won't give or even sell it back to me is well worth the price.

I guess it's true that you get what you pay for. And I think that it holds true more for sushi than a lot of other things. My girlfriend and I came here after reading countless reviews about how this was excellent, cheap sushi. And we just thought to ourselves, "Heh, this can be our go-to sushi joint for any little cravings we may have!" And then we went there, and were excited to try this "cheap, good sushi". However, only one part of that statement was true: cheap. Although it was cheap, the quality was rather poor. We quietly ate our rolls, and it was just a bit of an unpleasant feeling. Furthermore, while we were eating, I remember seeing a bit of movement when I looked at the rolls, which made my stomach cringe a little bit. Won't be coming back.

Not to be a brat, but I hate places that seat you nearly right on top of other guests, which is what Full Moon does. And don't you dare think about sitting in a booth unless you have like.. at least 6 people in your party, k? :P The KIIS FM playing in the background is also probably the biggest downside. BUT... their food is delicious. And soo reasonable. The rumor is the head sushi chef here was originally a sushi chef at Matsu [an old favorite of mine] so it's a big duh this place rules. The other rumor is, he got tired of the stuffiness and old skool of Matsu and made his own younger and more casual interpretation. I like it. The service is fast and friendly and their drink prices are extremely cheap. My favorite thing here is called the Hawaiian roll-- a California roll topped with Poke [a very true interpretation of the famous Hawaiian dish, which consists of fresh tuna marinated in fresh ingredients-- trust me, it's amazing!]. I crave this thing on a regular basis, and I've tried to duplicate it much to my dismay. :( Another goodie is their Full Moon Roll, duh! Anyways, I *love* this place despite my minimal complaints.
(4)Shon S.
This is one of my favorite places to get Sushi. It's pretty cheap and super fresh. The place is always packed (that's the problem with good food, it attracts a crowd) and the tables are so close to each other I always call in my order to go rather than dine a foot from strangers. My friends and I laugh too loud for the seating so it's best we just grab it and head somewhere we can be as loud and spread out as we want.
(5)Lauren A.
Crunchy roll bomb.com and the healthily full moon roll is amazing and guilt free
(5)Bee T.
I want to give full moon a 3.5 but I opted for a four because its a fountain valley staple! I swear, is spot at least three people from fvhs every time I dine here. Rolls, a yay. Fish, a ..."eh". Crunchy roll has a generous amount of tempura. Tuna taktaki has the right amount of tang. $35 for two? Definitely cheap for sushi (rolls that is).
(4)Miiiiei P.
I like their appetizers, those fried snack dishes were certainly crave killers, mmmmmmmmm! The sushi rolls were really well made and tasty also, I was surprised by the price they charged for each roll. No wonder why the place was packed with customers. What I didn't like so much was the rice bowl with steak. Overall, 4 stars!
(4)Kenna S.
The Full Moon is kind of like a little hole-in-the-wall in a shopping center surrounded by places such as Mimi's Cafe and Corner Bakery. Clean place, gets busy in the evening and there's a wait so that's always a good sign. Apparently service can be slow and they often forget about you, but luckily we didn't have either of those issues. Orders were taken promptly and the food arrived in a reasonable time frame. Straight to business: The Food 1) Chicken teriyaki combo with the salmon skin roll (comes with soup, a salad and a bowl of rice...obviously) -I'm a fan of white meat and maybe you have to ask for white meat but it's served with dark chicken pieces. The teriyaki sauce isn't too thick or too watery, it's just perfect and tastes, well, like teriyaki. -The salmon skin roll was ok...very little filling surrounded by a wall of rice. 2) The philadelphia roll - same situation as the salmon roll and only ok also 3) The Healthy Full Moon Roll - instead of being wrapped in rice, it's wrapped in soy paper. Now this is what I'm talking about. FULL of filling and super tasty. My fav hands down. It's loaded with tuna, salmon, white fish, shrimp, avocado, crabmeat, and smelt eggs all for $7.50...so it comes with a price for 6 little pieces but hey, the date paid. :) All-in-all, Full Moon is a nice little Japanese place with some pretty good sushi. The combo meal is the best deal for dinner. $7.95 for the chicken teriyaki, a sushi roll of your choice, soup and salad. Each additional roll is 7.50.
(4)Cecilia C.
Full moon is cheap and worth the price. It's not somewhere you would see stars like Ryan Gosling or Kelly Clarkson walking in any time soon but not everyone can afford food like on the Real Housewife, right? It's a place where you can go again and again because it's pretty out of this world. However, their waitresses are not the best behaved and will chase you if you forget to leave a tip.. Speaking from personal experience. People usually go bananas because of the bomb prices. Their california rolls are only $3.50 but the quality does not taste like the price, which makes it even better. It is pretty fantabulous but not quite legendary. Also, the music they play is always awesome and gets you in a happy mood. You should get there before 6:30 because it gets really crowded and there is usually a wait on the weekends. If you are looking for a cheap, quick sit down meal with your friends, this is the way to go fo' sho'.
(4)NamKy N.
We like to eat here in the weekend. Lunch menu is wonderful. Get the combo, it's better for the pocket and you'll get a nice full meal. The service here is very welcoming as well. They great us on the way in and out.
(5)Nyky L.
Average sushi at below average prices. Come here if you want a quick and cheap sushi fix. The poke appetizer offers a lot of bang for your buck (that's what she said, Oh!). Just be sure to ask them to go easy on the salt/soy sauce. It's always way too salty.
(3)M M.
Good crunch roll and sweet shrimp. In general food and affordable sushi. But service is pushy
(4)Sandy N.
The only waiter that actually has customer service skills is the hispanic guy. Seems like he does his job better than all the other girls.. I'm not kidding. Anyways, I usually like coming here for their spicy tuna, salad and chicken special!
(5)Tavitha C.
Me so hungry for Miso soup! hahaha I love this place. I work in the same shopping center so I usually call in for a pick up and never have any issues. I ended up having a nice dinner w/a girlfriend here and it was fun! The sushi bar guy, or whatever you call them, was really funny talked to us most of the time. I love the spicy tuna AND the mochi ball.. WOW, I never even knew those things existed! It was so good!
(4)Robert E.
I usually resist writing for a place I go to regularly but I love this place and they have been consistently good. I could go to Full Moon every day and be happy. That's about the highest compliment I could give a place. The only knock is the restaurant is small so seating is a challenge on busy evenings or during lunch and the service is sometimes a bit rude.
(4)Cindy T.
This place has pretty good sushi for the price they offered. Years ago, I dined in here and their service was horrible. They were so slow and would bring our dishes out one by one. We would finish one dish ( which was only a few rolls) and have to wait forever for the next dish. Now, years later, I still haven't dined in here, however since I work close by, we usually order take out. I have had the fortune of try their healthy full moon roll, and it was delicious! Even with ordering before hand, there was quite a wait when we went to pick up the food.
(3)Juliet P.
This place has great sushi for such low prices! We come here whenever we're craving delicious yet cheap sushi. I strongly recommend their crunchy rolls! Their salmon roe is great and so is their donkatsu. Oh yeah- their green mussels are terrific and so are the scallops. Customer service is excellent. They give you what you want and they are very friendly. There is always a lot of people in the restaurant yet they never lose their patience. The only thing that prevented me from giving full five stars was the small location. I think the store should be bigger and have more space! But the sushi, price, and customer service are totally worth it!
(4)Chala E.
This place has good prices and has really fresh sushi. You've gotta try the Healthy Full Moon roll if you like sashimi. Delish and refreshing too!
(4)Jyenny B.
This dining experience was terrible! The only thing that went right was being seated quickly; everything was downhill from there. Service: Even though the place was half empty when my friend and I walked in, our server took our food order after taking orders for diners seated after us. We waited quite a while for our sushi and when it arrived only half of it was served. While we were eating what had arrived, another roll was delivered that we didn't order. There seemed to be some confusion when we sent back the incorrect roll because the next thing we knew someone came to our table with forks we supposedly asked for?? Um, wrong table, again, sport. Then we waited at least another 15 minutes for the rest of our food, but finally gave up and looked around to try to get anyone's attention to get our check. Just then our server brings out more of our food. By this time it's been more than an hour and we have somewhere to be. We were still missing one roll and had to ask the server to take it off the bill. Food: The sushi rolls were very small and not very fresh. My friend's tuna smelled a little off. Not a good sign at a sushi place. I'll never come back here.
(1)Ivy N.
there are two main items here one I consider the best I ever had and another one that is a great item to order every time. I have never found a crunchy roll comparable to this place.. I love the way they make it here and everywhere else I have gone theirs doesn't have that same crunch factor! I don't know what it is! haha. The other roll would be the volcano roll.. yummyyy... mayo and scallops?! can't go wrong there! The other menu items are just basic and good but I mean you can always get them somewhere else. The price point is good for the quality.. the salmon sashimi was actually very yummy and tender not fishy at all so you can tell it was fresh.. always a go to sushi spot for a quick sushi dinner.
(4)Leyna K.
Two stars for the service, nice people, and low prices. I don't know about the other food but their sushi was not good. Maybe it's just me, but their sushi seems really fatty. It made me feel really full after just a few pieces. I will not be returning no matter how cheap their sushi is!

One of the roommates suggested this a place for a house dinner, so off we went. Maybe because he's from Hawaii, he knew about this place, but ya, when you enter, the very first thing that caught my eye was POKE. As I am from Hawaii as well, oh wow, fond memories of Poke. I would eat that thing with the family at family bbq's, football tailgating games... honestly, many special occasions were marked by poke! i remember my dad taking me to markets and we would stand in the poke aisles forever. So thats why I love Poke, and thats a big big plus about this place. The sushi in general was excellent, and for me, being a big fan, I would have to say the quality was on par with many of my favorite places. The room is large and so in general, waits will be kept to a minimum, and that's another giant plus as well. Overall, there's much to like about Full Moon Sushi Restaurant.
(4)Nikki H.
Great sushi at a reasonable price. Normally if you want to go out for sushi you are looking at spending a pretty penny to get everything you want. Here you can order just about anything you want without breaking the bank. Almost all of the rolls are around 8 to 10 dollars or so. My favorites are: -Philly Roll- cream cheese, avocado and salmon (something about cream cheese and soy is just amazing) -Crunch Roll w/ Spicy Tuny on Top- you have to order it this way special but soo tasty. -Hawaiian Roll- CA Roll w/ Salmon and Ahi Poke on top -Healthy Full Moon- several different types of fish wrapped in soy paper, you can get the regular full moon which is fried but I don't like hot rolls so I've never tried it. -Spicy scallop handroll- get it extra spicy w soy paper. If you like things like tempura and miso soup thats all good too. They also have a really great meal special for around $7 which includes beef or chicken teriyaki, tempura or ca roll or spicy tuna roll and rice, salad and soup. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait because it gets packed but I absolutely love this place and it's well worth it. If it wasn't for the fact that sometimes the waitresses say they can't do things, when I know they can because they've done it before, they would get all 5 stars. MMM sushi for dinner?

Great food, great deal, great service! Only complaint is nothing!

i l-l-love Full Moon! My first time eating sushi was at this restaurant about 8 years ago and ever since it manifested my love for sushi! I highly recommend the Crunchy Roll, Volcano Roll, and Spider Roll! and prices are pretty decent! Seriously, have a go at this place, its delicious!
(5)Josephine Z.
I heard rumors of people having bad sushi, but I never thought it would happen to me. I love all kinds of sushi - the quick, cheap kind that feeds your fix and even the expensive, delicate kind filled with TLC. If you like having warm foggy saltwater with 2 cubes of tofu that they call miso soup and waiting an eternity to get your spoon, you'll love this place! How about having chunks of slimy green fragments on your water glass that tastes like it came from the toilet? Perhaps eating putrid soft crab from your spider roll that leaves your digestive system feeling like Hiroshima will make you want to come here. The service is what leaves a bad taste in my mouth - not just the rotten crab meat that they served. Out of the 3 waiters, only one was semi-accommodating. Our initial waitress could care less after having 2 strikes: never bringing a spoon after waiting...and waiting and then serving me toilet water with an old, flimsy lemon slice in a gunky glass. Since Waitress #1 disappeared, I asked another girl to help us. I called her over to the table and told her my problem. She said "Well, we usually have a line out the door and things get busy." I looked around and there were still several tables empty. There was no line out the door. Is that an excuse to serve dirty dishes and impartial service to paying customers? At least Waitress #2 was kind enough to bring me a clean glass of water that didn't taste like Tijuana tap water, after our initial waitress vanished. The food was just as disappointing as the service. After having one piece of my cousin's Spider Roll, my esophagus refused to take the food into my system. I love food and rarely do I ever leave any sushi unconsumed but this incident was new to me. My poor cousin, who's a sushi novice, ate at least 3-4 pieces after smothering them in soy sauce/wasabi. Poor kid couldn't taste the lack of quality and actually rotten, crusty shellfish. I should have known when I could barely recognize I was eating soft shell crab. This was the third strike, so I asked to speak to the manager. I rarely ever complain, but when you serve rotten tasting fish, you need to let management know so nobody else gets hurt. He was a younger guy, probably the owner's son or something. When he approached the table, I showed him the inside of the roll and informed him that the fish was bad. He seemed to get offended because he started muttering that its the same roll that everybody is eating and nobody else complained. Then, he said "OK, so you don't want to pay for this? Is this what it's about?" I was appalled. It's not just about not paying, it's about being courteous to your customer and making sure that their quality of food meets standards. He started raising his voice and I could tell his temper was rising, so I asked for a business card to speak with the owner. Finally, one of the sushi chefs came from behind the bar and handed me a business card. I asked if he was the owner and he said he was. I informed him of my experience from beginning to end and he, too, started raising his voice and mentioned everybody else had the same rolls and nobody complained. He brought our check to the table and crossed out the spider roll from our bill. Are you serious? It was rude and embarrassing because the whole restaurant was watching the escapade. If the owner could give a shit about providing quality courtesy, it shows you how much he cares about the quality of his food. ***Disclaimer: Details of Josephine's bowel movements forthcoming. Stop here if you would like the details spared.*** I am writing this after 5 hours of eating here. Before that, my gag reflex was going at it. The one piece of soft crab that I had eaten ceased to dissipate from my taste buds. Later, the sharp pain in my abdomen was worse than the most intense menstrual cramps. I still feel sick and have had over 4 trips to the Jon. I am now dehydrated and am still recovering from the depressing sushi experience. Bad sushi shouldn't happen to good people. I guess I'm spoiled in San Diego for getting fresh, quality sushi rolls with good service at decent prices.

My friend wanted to get sushi and i'm not really familiar with the area so she said this place was good. So we came here for some sushi. We arrived with a welcome and it was around 4pm so the restaurant was about half full. From my observation there was many Caucasians so it must be Americanized. Or it must be popular. Who knows. It was my first thought. But we were sat down by a nice server and my friend got a green tea and i just had some water to drink. The menu had a pretty nice selection. The menus seemed kind of old and used, but that's good. Shows that it must be popular. My friend ordered the Volcano rolls which were California rolls with a spicy scallop on top. I had a couple and they were pretty good. I got a combination plate with shrimp tempura, California rolls, and some miso soup. I thought it was good and not a bad price. The food came kind of slow, but i think it was because of my friends volcano rolls. I think they put it in the oven for a little bit. So i don't blame them for that. Overall, good service and pretty good food. I would go back if i were back in Fountain Valley craving sushi.
(4)Lana H.
On weekend nights, the wait is very long. But if you go on a random day for lunch, then there's no wait. The service isn't that great, you don't get what you ask for unless you ask a couple of times. I always ask for a spoon for my miso soup, but it usually doesn't come till about 10 minutes later, same as for when I ask for eel sauce. As for the workers, I can barley understand them because of the heavy Japanese accent. The food is pretty good, the sushi are smaller than Kabuki's, and the portions are smaller. Their teriyaki salon is very fishy, so I stopped ordering it after the 2nd time. Besides that, the food is cheap and affordable. Come here if you want good and cheap food, but don't care about bad service. One more thing added to their bad service, my sister and her friends had lunch here a few months ago and they left without tipping because the service was bad, and a waitress stopped them at the door making them leave tip for the chef! How rude is that, if they don't want to leave tip, then they shouldn't have to, the waitress has to right to stop them and force them to tip! They ended up just tipping $3, a dollar from each of them. What great service huh?
(3)Russell D.
I really like this place because it is so casual and easy. Full Moon is very nice for just a random lunch or dinner with friends or family. Their food is fine, everything you would expect of a typical Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere is very mellow here, not too loud and not deathly silent either. One of the things I like the most about Full Moon is that I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get seated. The food is also very affordable and the portions are adequately sized. looking for a quick, nice, and relaxing sushi lunch in OC? then go to Full Moon.
(3)Andrea O.
5 Stars for the prices. 4 Stars for the staff. They always say hello and goodbye as you're entering, but don't seem to have the time for even a 30 second conversation. 2 Stars for the seating arrangements. I feel like I'm sitting in random people's laps and have no privacy. 3 Stars for the quality of the sushi. 5 Stars for the Philadelphia Rolls (which are my favorite and deserve their own category). 3 Stars for the parking lot and overall crowd Overall Rating: 3.7 stars. (No really. I did the math :-P)

Do you enjoy sushi that tastes good & doesn't drain your wallet? Then this is the place! On Friday night you may have to wait at least 20 minutes for a table, so submit your name for the sushi bar and enjoy the artful consistent robotic sushi chefs as they create their creations for you. They may not have a huge variety of rolls, but the price and quality can't be beat! My favorite is the Hawaiian tuna roll. The tuna is freshly marinated, cubed and placed on top of the roll. Another favorite is the albacore roll. Don't expect the scallops to be large on their Volcano roll, but they sure are tasty. Why this places closes by 9 PM is beyond me. Forget ordering sashimi, you only get a few pieces and they're thinly sliced. The quality is great, but you probably could buy the sashimi for less at a Japanese grocery store. However, since they turn over so much fish in one day, their fish is probably fresher than you could buy at the market.
(4)Tiffany F.
This is the place that brings my friends and I together, no matter how busy our lives get. We still make time for Full Moon. LOL It's def THE place to go to if you are craving sushi badly and need a quick, affordable sushi fix. My fav. : Full Moon Special Roll, Salmon Special, Crunchy Roll, Hawaiian Roll (Today's special only) Poke Salad.
(4)Sam Y.
Good value for sushi. not the greatest sushi but Get what you paid for in life. In this economy who can afford expensive sushi often.
(4)Margaret T.
i have nothing but love for this place! my mom brought me here when i was younger and it has been my go to sushi place ever since! i don't think anyone else does a crunchy roll or volcano roll like they do! it's perfection. the service is always good. sometimes it's not always as fast as you want it to be but that's because it's busy. the prices are better than most places. they're prices for sushi is ridiculous! most places charge like $4+ for just two pieces of sushi and often times it's mediocre or shitty! full moon never fails with the quality and taste of their sushi for as low as $2.50!!! (maybe i'm biased but i don't care!!!) i just love coming here. it's almost as if i feel right at home every time i come. now i go to their costa mesa location since it's close to where i live and the only thing better about it is that there is more seating! and no wait! heheheh. the cool thing about full moon is it's super versatile. you can dress it up and it could be a nice place to take your date for dinner or just dress it down and have it as a cas and chill spot to get sushi with some good friends. the one thing that I WISH they had was a happy hour for drinks! i think it'd be over once that happens... but like i said their prices are already good so can't really complain there.
(5)Jesse G.
Decent sushi with good service, kinda crappy location but prolly is great for lunch.

This restaurant is a STRONG 4! I recently went to a much more upscale sushi restaurant where I paid twice the price as at Full Moon and received only half the satisfaction. The place smelled a little fishy when I first walked in, but I'm not easily deterred when I have sushi on my mind. The wait staff was super nice, and the prices were great too. I ordered something off their specials board - the Hawaiian roll?- and the crunchy roll and it came out to about $15 (which is roughly what I paid for 1 crunchy roll and 1 considerably-less-fancy spicy tuna roll at Kobe sushi a few days before). The Hawaiian roll was a simple roll (cali roll I think) topped with poke style ahi tuna, and it was AMAZING! The crunchy roll was also excellent!!! I got the crunchy roll since it had been recommended by a few reviewers on this page, but I DO have to say I preferred the crunchy roll at Kobe. The roll at Kobe was made with a slightly sweeter tempura I think, and it was just more to my taste - but this is not anything against the roll I got here at Full Moon, because I still scarfed that sucker down! For spending only $15 here, I was so totally and completely satisfied. I felt like not only were the prices good, the serving sizes were better than average. It takes a lot of sushi to fill me up, and I almost couldn't finish my two rolls from here! If you are looking for super fancy gourmet sushi than this is not your place, but everyone else should give this place a try! *just a little note: I read some reviews that said the fish was not that fresh, and I think that they might have been advertising the Hawaiian roll on their specials board that day because the tuna (yellowtail too, I think) they had was so good. I might have had different feelings if I had ordered something else, but stilllll it's a great place!

When I lived in FV, my now wife and I ate here all the time. It's busy for a reason. She loves their crunch rolls. Service is always good despite the business but there have been times where there is a large gap between drink refills or if the sushi bar is busy it can be a while. Many of times I've received my entree(teriyaki chicken) before the sushi. We did cheat on this place and started going to Marusaki. Nice thing is this place is open on Sundays
(4)A Y.
I use to love this place and frequent it with my friends, but then time passes and as my taste change, I find Full Moon is no loner suitable for me. Full Moon's house specialty is the crunchy roll, and really, no other place does it better. It has the right amount of crunch and flavor in perfect balance. And the spider roll and soft shell crab hand roll are pretty good as well. That's where the list stops. Eat only the cooked rolls, and find raw fish elsewhere. I was happily content with Full Moon years ago, until one day I tried their poke bowl. It was a bowl of fishy tuna. =( I've never had such fishy fish in my life. No good, and I'll never touch raw fish there again. If you want some good raw fish head to Koto, it's only 2 minutes away. Full Moon, I loved you once.
(3)Jeanette N.
We love full moon sushi. Their healthy full moon roll is excellent, wrapped in soy paper with a variety of good fish. Also, their cucumber/lollipop roll has a variety of yummy fishes in it. We love it. And of course, their Hawaiian Roll that has spicy poke on top! The environment is very comfortable. The service is good.
(4)Brad J.
So, I take my kids here a few times a month and it is always pretty good and the prices are reasonable. It's not the most mind blowing sushi, but it is pretty damn good for the price and keeps me coming back. The service is sometimes slow, indeed. But, if you know what you are in for you get good food at a decent price. Keeps us coming back.

Decided to try Full Moon since we haven't been there in quite sometime- It had been slowly going downhill, not only in service but the food as well. We ordered out and went to pick it up and had to wait about 10 minutes even though I told the waiter, it still sat on the counter until someone realized I was there to pick up , Got home and low and behold, my husband's dinner was half missing(he ordered teriyaki chicken with tempura and only received the tempura) he didn't get the chicken, rice, or salad. We called them and they said to come in another time and get a free dinner, we are not ever going back there, the portions were so small, we were all still hungry after eating every thing they gave us- total ripoff- don't eat there, you'll be sorry!

Not a fan. The servers are slow, and the place is always crowded, i dont even see why! i like the Full moon on Harbor better. I went here today with my two friends and i ordered the combo (teriyaki chicken, salad, miso soup w/ a choice of tempura or california rolls.) my other friends got the combo too but teriyaki beef instead. and a poke bowl. (spicy tuna w/ rice & cabbage) the poke bowl was pretty good. the bill came out to be 22$$ ehh, that's an okay price. the rolls here are sloppy, i dont like their presentation, and the taste is the same as the presentation. just A-okay. but try the Full Moon on harbor, it's so much better! better combo choices, and better sushi rolls. but the service is slow there too -___-

Full Moon is my regular no-frills quick stop for sushi. And I've been there so many times, which is probably why it feels like home. It's small, but the inside of the place is set up right. A bunch of small tables and no-frills japanese / california decor is what you'll get. The menu is similarly no-frills, but they offer a number of great options between traditional sushi, cooked sushi, and what I like to call "other". As far as appetizers, the sesame chicken is cheap and will feed at least 3 people. The salad is also tasty and calimari is usually good too. Personal favorites are volcano roll and philly roll. "Special" roll is worth trying and the rest are also good. If it's busy, the waitress will be running around trying to serve 6 or 8 tables at once, in which case don't be afraid to shout out or wave furiously to get their attention in case you need something. They won't be offended. But the food will arrive quickly. Sometimes a small wait during the peak hours - Friday or Saturday night. Don't bring a large party (more than 4, or 5 if you have a small child) it's kind of pointless since they can't really seat you. Check hours before you go, since I've gone there for lunch around 11:30 on a Sunday and had to wait til about noon til they opened. The sushi bar seats 8 or 10 people if you're so inclined. Bottom line: tasty grub to get your craving filled at hole-in-the-wall prices. Chances are you probably won't spend more than $12 per person even with a big hunger (alcohol excluded), and you can certainly eat for less if you grab a special.
